You might say the same about a $300 knife, a $100,000 car or a $200 a plate meal. The non-enthusiast will never understand the amount of money an enthusiast spends on his/her interests.
$300 is cheap in the real audio world.
How are you driving your HD650s? That makes a big difference. These Monoprice are only 50 ohms and the 650s are 300 Ohm. The HD650 will not provide optimal sound without an appropriate amp.

Here's a review[themasterswitch.com]. Very tempted; although admittedly it's not much of a discount (6.67% plus free shipping), it's the first I've seen for these.

When monoprice had a 20% coupon going, it worked on these

These have never been discounted until now. It's not much, but it's still the cheapest. They are the best bang for the buck headphone I have tried. I auditioned the Gen 1.
I've only owned dynamic headphones up until now. I'm currently running a pair of Senn. HD 650s (upgraded from 580s). The problem I have with every headphone I've owned is that no matter how high quality they are, they still sound like listening to headphones. For those of you that own or have auditioned these, do they sound more like listening to music (or at least listening to loudspeakers)?
Not any time I've ever checked (pretty much every time I saw one). Were you able to get a pair with that discount?
I didn't purchase but I did add to cart and use code and it went through. I decided not to purchase since at the time they didn't have any reviews out. They may have since changed this.

I have HE-400i on the way already. Are these really worth the extra cost?

No it didn't. I have tried in the past year every time they have had a 20% coupon. These are always one of the excluded items.
if you are asking a "?"
