I was at Costco store and i found this Netgear AC1900 (R6900). I didnt convert mine to R7000 as I am using it as my main router, I have 2 other routers acting as repeaters connected to it. 1 is WRT3400 (DD-WRT and the other is R6100 (OpenWRT).

Its B/M so YMMV @ East Hanover New Jersey

This is my 1st post of a deal

You can set up a VPN from within the router.

Also $100 is a steal for this router. I paid $250 for it and it was worth it.

New these went for about $300

I tried several different ways and the only solution seemed a new router

I would go with a 1.4GHz router like the Netgear Nighthawk X4 AC2350. It was on AMZ lightning sale few days ago for $123.

I had an Asus RT-AC87R 1GHz router to setup as VPN router but the speeds were very slow on PIA. The hardware does not encrypt quick enough. I have a 350mbps line and the speeds I got through the router with VPN was less than 50mbps.

Compare that with VPN through the PIA SW client where I get speeds of 250+!

I just bought one at my local Costco. It was the last one on the shelf. It is very stable and doesn't drop the Wi-Fi connection.

I just had to return a more costly Netgear X4S AC2600 MU-MIMO because it kept dropping the Wi-Fi connection. It's fast when the connection doesn't drop.

It's amazing the cheaper one performs better than the expensive one.

Two of my routers (Tenda) died yesterday due to a power outage Frown

Just bought one at Costco Beaverton, OR. I had to ask for it since none were on the shelf.
I updated the firmware and set it up. Great range for 2.4GHz as well as 5GHz.
If it is going to work reliably then this is a great choice.

Better yet, build your own router with pfSense and get full speed VPN for all of your connected clients!

A bit out of the technical range of most users, but well worth it if you can figure it out. As far as I know, there are no consumer routers that have decent hardware accelerated encryption for VPN connections. You can still do it, but even on higher end consumer gear like this, you'll have a hard cap on connection speed.
