Has anyone been denied lifetime transfer after they received the bolt? Also Is this with lifetime on your account or without?

What if you were to plug it in today and have it check in, would they be able to tell it wasn't active for the past year, or would they just see the last check in?
Yes they can tell. I did just that and the lady (US rep) was like, sorry your box hasn't been active since, since, what today?

Gotcha, I would keep trying though. Seems people have some luck after a few calls.

Called for second time. First time told all my Tivos that are model eligbible hadn't been attached in the past year. I then booted everything up and let them all connect to mothership.

Called again this morning...and still no joy. Guy on phone checked all boxes and gave them all a thumbs down on the basis of not being active in the specified timeframe.

So 0/2.

And major shout out to Killerz, who helped me get a Bolt+. He apparently had an old S2 that had not connected during the time period. He called the other day and was told he was not eligible. According to what he told me, he connected everything and let it connect within the last few days, and I just called and was able to order a Bolt+ with lifetime for $599 shipped to me based on his old S2. She said I would get it within 4-6 business days, so hopefully sometime early next week!

If you get shot down, call again. I didn't get the email, and hell I don't even have an old Tivo and was able to get the deal Smilie

I plugged in and connected my old Toshiba S2 this morning which hadn't been connected for years. Just called and got the 500 GB Bolt with no issues at all. She said it would arrive in 4-6 days.

Anyone know with some certainty that they will be discontinuing all Tivo units now that it has been sold to Rivo and Rivo don't plan on making the hardware anymore?

That seems to be the reason for allowing this type of fire sale with no limit on the quantities.

Anyone has an input?

No, the reason they're having this "fire sale" is because they don't want to maintain POTS lines or the overhead associated with these old units - notice how (despite what some of us are experiencing), there is strict criteria that the box is basically still actively in use. They figure for people who have been rocking the same old school box for a decade, they might as well make a little money off of those people (presumably they sell the boxes at a profit, and of course their "cost" for giving you lifetime service if you were otherwise not going to buy anything is $0) rather than making nothing off of a customer and be able to retire the boxes and no longer have to support them, killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Even if Tivo quit making hardware in the coming years, which is totally possible, existing hardware would still be functional for many many years - plenty long to get your money's worth out of a lifetime sub. Also, as Tivo has always done, including this deal, they always make sweet offers when they kill old hardware or force people into something else, and I would expect the same if they ever killed off the Bolts.

Anything is possible, but I just spent $600...and I'm not remotely worried about my investment.

I highly doubt that would happen. They sold you a box and they sold you lifetime service. Then what are they going to do, not allow you to activate it with lifetime service that you just paid for? Demand that you send the box back for a refund? Anything is possible, but I'd bet a lot of money they aren't going to do that. The time for them to deny discounted lifetime service is at the point of purchase when they're charging your credit card for it, just like they're doing to a lot of people in this thread.

Offer and acceptance = a contract.

I had a kind of hilarious experience; I have like 10 tivo listed on my account. Got the upgrade offer, called in, and a TiVo phone rep in the Philippines told me-- no worries, we won't even disconnect -any- of your existing tivos! I'll just place an order for a new one w/ a $99 lifetime service is what he said. I asked him to confirm like 5 times and he did-- he offers it as if it was a separate offer he had exclusive access to.

Called in today to see if I could do another one and when I told the U.S.-based phone rep of my previous conversation and she -instantly- told me, sorry, no, the guy was misinformed, I -DO- have to surrender lifetime service on one of my tivos (which was no problem as I had 2 entirely unused ones that had connected in the specified time frame.). Even got her to sell me another Bolt, grabbing lifetime from one of those older ones.

BUT, that first tivo rep really could have screwed me over his terrible information-- telling me specifically and explicitly that no other tivo on my account would lose service!

Sorry if this has been answered as nauseum , but has anyone had success getting transfer of service on a tivo 2 and THEN getting in on this deal? I read some fine print saying tivo 1-3 couldnt get transfered, but it could have been old. I found one on craigslist for $50 and want to do it, but wanted to make sure first.
Also, do I have to have the tivo hooked up at my house that my other (Tivo Roamio) tivo is hooked up to, or would it be fine for the other gentleman to have the tivo 2 I'm buying just hooked up and turned on at his house? Do they check IPs and all that?

It's a slick deal. Wish I could get a second one, but I only had one TiVo HD. I wonder if they might have any similar deals in the future without having to deactivate an older unit.

Do you mean transfer of ownership, not transfer of service?
Post #304 [tivocommunity.com] says he bought a S2 off ebay and had the ownership transfered to him so he could get this deal.

I have never heard of Tivo tracking IP addresses for promotional qualifications. It should not matter since there are ample of reasons you could have multiple IP addresses. They are only concerned that the lifetime unit called in within the specified date range, and multiple people have reported getting around that.

Sorry, long thread. What's the main benefit here? I have an old HD and qualify but it still works and doesn't cost me anything. Is it really worth the upgrade? I'm assuming if I think it is, file price protection with the CC company vs. Amazon's price once bought from TiVo?

Box is old is obvious.
Resale value is somewhat obvious.
Built in 4k apps vs 4k TV apps? NOT OBVIOUS.
I might let you hold my hand for a nickle if it is shinySmilie
I've got the same situation hardware-wise as runner. I pulled the trigger not only because my decade old TiVo HD is getting flaky, but the dual tuner conflict will now be a thing of the past. If you don't care about 4K, that alone might be reason enough to upgrade.

If you order online with the promo code, it didn't have a limit. I could adjust the quantity as high as I wanted.
if this is the case then expect the market to be flooded and don't think you can take advantage of this for resale and not be undercut. I myself got a series 2 off eBay for $60 to take advantage of this and it worked fine for me I asked the seller to add up pickup free option to his listing and I told him he could keep the equipment he called and had transfer ship of ownership and I called the next day to use the promotion
