I'm sick and tired of people coming in here bragging about how they got better deals than the others. Unless the deal can be replicate, keep it to yourself. Just because you got it, doesn't mean everybody else does.
How does it help when they can't replicate the deal? Get on a time machine and travel back? Same as the deal for Samsung KS8000 for example. If u got the EPP then more power to you. For people who don't have EPP, and if a great deal comes up, they'll be happy to pay a little more. Point is don't just come in here and brag that u got it cheaper cuz it was on clearance or u have EPP. Just my 2 cents and hope that make sense.

Interesting to see desktop externals continuing to drop while portable externals stay the same or increase a bit on sale over the past couple years.

Is SMR unreliable or slower?

Slower. I have 3 of the 8TB SMR drives and they're fine for my use. It's all relative. They're "slow" compared to other drives, but still would have no problem streaming 10+ videos at the same time. For most home mass storage uses (not running the OS or games off the drive), speed just doesn't matter.

Nice find OP but just a FYI. These are the ones without the USB hub which may not be an issue for some

My 3TB just took a dump after a couple years of use as a backup for my media. Not sure what the expected life expectancy of these seagates are, but I'm not impressed.
