Verizon Pre-Order Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ at Costco

Posted 04-01-2017 by CoreyC6480 at 07:13 AM
I didn't see this already posted, hoping it's not a duplicate.

Included with the Gear VR, controller, and $50 Oculus Content, Costco is offering a Samsung Level U Pro headset and a TYLT Power Essentials bundle if you pre-order in Warehouse. Bundle includes a Dual Port 4.8A wall charger, Dual Port 4.8 car charger, 5200mAh backup battery, 3' braided USB-C cable, 3' USB cable, and a carrying case.

I read the unlocked versions don't become available until May.

Verizon postpaid lte phones are unlocked, however that doesn't mean they are fully compatible with othwr networks. The s7 and s7 edge versions could be flashed to the universal/unlocked version and even get tmobiles wifi calling and band 12, but too early to tell here
Will they work out of the box with att and tmobile? More than likely yes (after adding apn settings)
Will it be optimal? 99% chance of no

You must be a Verizon postpaid customer to buy a Verizon phone through Costco and you must finance it on DPP.

Yes, but to get them to work properly on another carrier, you would have to flash the other carrier's firmware using ODIN. Supposedly the hardware for every S8/S8+ US model is identical and you can flash any other US model's stock, signed firmware using ODIN even with a locked bootloader.

The international models are different because they have a different processor (Exynos). But the US models all have the Snapdragon processor.

this has been the deal from day 1, and the suckiest compared to everything else. Sams is offering $150 card, target is offering $100 gc , best buy is offering $100/$50 off. I went to Costco yesterday and was told a gc offer is coming soon , anywhere between $25 to $200, and if I preorder now, they will add the gc later. I also attached a pic of the quote i recieved for an S8 and S8+ where the costco associate called out the "Min $25 GC".

If my PREORDER experience with costco, is anything like it was before for the note 5, don't expect to see the phone in your hand until 4-7 days after the release date. The cheap accessories pack + in ear headphones are terrible add ons. EVERY retailer is doing the VR as it's part of Samsung's promo. The only way I would buy this upgrade from them is if they gave me $150 or more in costco gift card.

The freebies are of no value to most of the people.

The sams deal is instore only just like this one, yea? Might be tempting, is it an instant $150gc for sams club or a rebate style card later on from sams/samsung? Does the sams deal include any accessories besides the vr headset?

To break down the costco deal:
Currently no giftcard
Samsung headphones (good reviews on amazon but only $39 right now)
$50 oculus content (this is actually just a pack of preselected games, not $50 to spend freely)
Tylt kit (5200mah pack plus chargers, cables, case, about $25 value)

Well you are wrong. Comparing iPhones to Androids is an apples to oranges comparison.

You can use a Verizon iPhone on any of the 4 national carriers and it works fine. That isn't true at all of Samsung devices. You have to flash the proper firmware to get them to work properly on other carriers.

It really is. I wonder why Costco isn't offering a better deal.

That's really stupid on their part. Lots of people have already pre-ordered and Costco is missing out.

I'm not an expert in this area but people often mistakenly believe an unlocked phone will work on other carriers. Unlocked phones sometimes don't have the correct bands to work fully on other carriers. Take Verizon's Moto Z Droid, for example. It works on T-Mobile but it does not have access to all of T-Mobile's bands, thus potentially limiting coverage. I'm not saying this applies to Samsung phones in general or the S8 specifically. Just offering a clarification.

Will ordering Costco faster than ordering in at&t store?
