Damn this is pretty slick I think. As far as I can tell, this receiver is nearly identical to the Yamaha rx-v581 in its specs, except it comes with a 3 year warranty. Too bad I just bought a refurbished v581 for the same price! Would have to take a 5% restocking fee hit plus pay tax on this item... probably not worth it just to get the extra warranty

Great receiver if you only need 4 in and 1 out HDMI. But most people have a lot more AV devices than that these days.

I have a similar receiver, the 481. I'm really impressed with it, especially the MusicCast feature. I use it for audio only and was able to put it in the basement, route the speaker wires through the wall, and control the whole thing wirelessly. MusicCast is really cool and works flawlessly.

I see it now. they didn't list it in "surround sound decoders". wish I had got this instead of my onkyo 656.

Ordered an open box-excellent condition for $270 - $5 reward certificate that was going to be expired soon. I was waiting for 2017 Aventage A2070 or A3070 to be announced, but at this price it's a no brainer. I will use it as my living room (or bedroom) receiver. Damn it's cheaper than most Musiccast standalone speakers Smilie

Can you use this as a 5.1 or must you use it as a 7.2?

Hcdp 2.2 compliant? I can't imagine it's not but couldn't find it anywhere.

Ordered a new model. Have read iffy things about BB open box. Do they test the unit to see it works or simply inspect the condition of the product?

You can set it up however you want. 2.0, 5.1, 7.1, etc. just connect speakers to correct terminals.

You can use receivers in any configuration you want (limited by the channel number and obviously the amount of speakers you have connected).

So in this case you could do 2.1, 3.1,5.1, 7.1 or 2.2, 3.2, 5.2, 7.2 - the number after the decimal refers to the number of subwoofers connected. This receiver can do up to 2 subwoofers.

Hope that helps.

Yes HDCP 2.2 compliant. See here:
http://usa.yamaha.com/products/au...mode=model

A lot of people walk into store, buy the receiver and then realize it's either too much for them or not doing what they expect. Some people just buy it for the 2 of weeks use and return. I'll make sure it works fine and it comes with 3 year warranty anyway.

Would this be better or worse than the Denon S720W that goes on sale close to this price? I'm trying to decide between the two. I don't have many devices needing to be connect so HDMI inputs aside.
