This was always my clay bar kit of choice but I'm moving on to a clay mitt to see if they're any good. Seems like a mitt would save a lot of time.

Agree. These newer decontamination pads/mitts seem more efficient than a clay bar. There are some cheap versions at ebay if you want to try them out before you pick up one of the more expensive ones (so please don't use it on your shiny black Corvette until you've tried it out). Here is the one I bought a few months ago for around $4 (they come from China so take 2-4 weeks for delivery) and hope to use soon as the weather improves. But are many other vendors at eBay so do a simple search for a better price:

Here's a good auto detailing article on clay bars and decontamination pads.

Decontamination pads look interesting. Clay bar still probably a must have in case of overspray. it saved my paint job.

Tried the pads and still prefer the bars. Scuffed up the paint even on a low speed and taking my time. High error risk. Think I'll try the mitts next.

Pads are great, but keep a bar nearby for more contaminated areas (rail dust, for example).

I still use iron-x first. Really speeds things up.

Just clayed my black SUV this previous weekend.. made a HUGE difference in how the surface feels but it took nearly 3 2-3 hours by hand to do it..

Next time I'm going to try this out since I already have a Porter Cable DA Polisher

Also don't see the coupon unfortunately- maybe it was very limited.
