Oh, I got it. You got the unlimited cellular hotspot from Sprint to take place your cable service, didn't you?

Nope. Just stating how unethical and anti consumer Comcast is.

Just signed up for Fiber too.

Comcast uses people's home routers without their consent to power this Wi-Fi network.

Use your own router with Comcast, don't rent one.

Unless of course you're in an area where your choice is Comcast for Cable Internet or AT&T for ADSL (meaning more money for far less speed). Not everyone has a fiber choice.

I've been saving money for a few months without Comcast. With a number of free lines and devices and unlimited data from T-Mobile from November, we tether devices.

It's fast enough to stream Netflix to the tv, do video conferencing when I work from home, etc. lots saved each month.

First off it's a separate network they run off, wouldn't interfere with your network at all. Secondly, you can call them to request to turn that feature off.

I'm probably going to get downvoted into oblivion for this, but I actually like Comcast's network. Yes their customer service and devices are awful, but if you take their devices out of the equation and use your own modem and TiVo, not only do you save money, you remove like 95% of issues with them.

if their using your router believe me you will lose performance. can't trust Comcast they may say they can turn that feature off but you would never know

that's exactly how I operate. I have the tivos and my own modem and I never have any issues now. maybe reset my modem 2 or 3 times a year and that it. I currently have over 30 devices hooked up to my wifi and my kids game as well no issues whatsoever

I HATE Comcast. I've been a customer for 7 years because there is no other option where I live. The absolute WORST customer service paired with service that is constantly needing repair.

It uses the Verizon network. Comcast isn't running cell towers...

Well, that statement you quoted, is relatively true. The "Xfinity Wifi" is broadcast from Comcast modem/routers, so yes, other people are supplying your wifi when you're using that. Whether that actually is ever going to impact your own WAN speeds, I highly highly doubt it. No one is anywhere near the limit of coaxial internet bandwidth. Comcast can push well over 350Mbps easily. No one here is using that, and anyone using the Xfinity wifi isn't going to be running a server off of it...

Running your own modem makes sense for a bunch of reasons, like saving lots of money after just a year of ownership. Plus, you don't have to worry about them killing your bridge mode (if you use you're own router) when they do an update at night.

The public wifi sharing can easily be turned off. You don't have to call anyone, just log into your modem/router via it's IP address (your subnet with a .1 at the end, ex 192.168.1.1). Easy to google credentials, yours are generic. Then, just turn off that crap.

And despite my absolute hatred for Comcast as a company, and their CS, their internet has been absolutely stellar in my opinion. I've had it for as long as it has existed. I get +200Mbps out of a 175Mbps service with a 6183 modem, it never goes down. <shrug>
