The reputation scoring system sucks

2,588 4,068 April 7, 2017 at 06:23 AM
What's with the reputation system? I posted a deal yesterday with 56 thumbs up and I didn't get a single rep point for it. What is the point in only having reputation added to a persons score if "I bought this" is clicked.

Furthermore, depending on which view you are presented with, for example if I select a deal from the FP, the way the page is presented doesn't have the "I bought this" button, this can only be viewed by going into the forum and selecting that view. Why even have 2 different views of the same deal pages?

Actually it does. Right below the big green "Buy Now" button. Blue hyperlink "I bought this item" link.

And you've got 3300+ rep? Who the hell cares at that point? Like people will trust you more if you have 6000 vs 3000? Not to mention changing the system will increase the rep for everyone.....while still kinda screwing those that have been here awhile and slowly marched up the rep board (like yourself).

It should be 1 rep per TU, comment votes should also be included in the rep system

Comment votes are included in the reputation system (in most forums).

For someone who has only been a member for a couple years and to have 3k+ points is well above the norm. Congratulations. As firebirdude said, once you have a high rep count, which you do, the difference between Xk and Yk is pretty meaningless. Not to mention that reps have no intrinsic value outside of ego boosting.

While I agree that a thumbs up could count as a rep, similar to the auto-rep with "i bought it", the thumbs up/down on a deal are more about the deal itself and whether its good or not. The rep reward is a personal thanks to the person who posted it. It's unfortunate, but most members (and obviously zero guests) feel the need to spend the extra second to thank the OP on most deals. But I wouldn't go so far as to say the system sucks.

Just want to jump in here and say that we're aware of the issue with reputation prominence in the new view. We're working on improving the way those options display in deal threads and hope to roll that out in the next week or two if all goes well in our testing.

So what you're saying is that this is another reason why everyone should just stick to the exponentially better 'classic view', correct?

This site has gone downhill, one day its FP the next day its never mentioned, yet crappy deals keeps making the FP....

The same deal on two different days will get different TU or TD....same price, same item....just different retailers.....happens all the time. depends on if the mods are sleeping, having a good day, etc.....

peace out...

The mods have nothing to do with the TU or TD count, thats based on the members voting. So if they like a deal from one retailer and not another, that's on them not SD. Furthermore, the mods don't FP anything, that would be the Deal Editors. Peace

Hi!

Details about the rep system can be found in this thread:
