I bought the same model for $949.99 about 3 months back when bb had it on sale. Still a decent price at $1049.99

This is the 2015 version, correct? Is there a big difference between this and the 2016 version which you can get refurbished for about $200 more?

Just basic usage but if the extra $200 means it will last another couple years then it may be worth it. I know that the hard drive is 128 vs 256, but how about performance or other features?

I have never had a MacBook and actually I am kind of anti-apple (so overpriced stuff, real nice but expensive!), I am like tinkering with my electronics so Apple is not my favorite, but my son wants one for college. Would this be suitable for that purpose and should I get the Apple care thing? My son is extremely careful with his stuff and was a chromebook technical guy at his high school so he knows electronics too, so should I pay the $250 'is for it? TIA for the responses to all the experts here!

You should be able to get a $100 off Apple Care BB coupon to drop the price down to $150. Whether or not you get it is up to you and your risk tolerance factor.

You really should put 2015 in the title.

I saw the title and price and thought it was a great deal, then I opened it and realized it was a 2015.

FWIW most credit cards will extend the warranty for another year if you put the full amount on it (1 yr to 2 yrs). Applecare covers 3 years total, so you can decide whether the extra years is worth $250 or $150 if you have an edu coupon.

There will probably be more deals. Plenty of time until August, possibly a refresh of existing models between now and then.

I am sitting on my hands for now.

Both offer 1 year extended warranties, however, the Discover 1 year extension doesnt apply if you have a 3 year warranty (or more) like Apple Care.

American Express will extend 5 year or less warranties by 1 year.
