Despite the controversial name, this book is actually good advice on how to be a better human being and have people like you as a result. It's NOT a manual for how to be a scumbag.

Decent tutorial especially for people like me who are not truly reprehensible but also not particularly likable. I won't spoil it but my main takeaway was just to be complimentary of the person you're trying to get to like you. That was a good lesson as I have a tendency to scold but rarely compliment. Has worked well with assistants as well as those I negotiate against. Recommended.

I read this book and took extensive notes on it as I went

Save yourself the reading, listen to the audio book as it is excellent.

And the tl;dr is that people are less interested in you than they are in themselves, so you must appeal to this notion. Talk about them. Not you. Only use positive speech. There is always a way to communicate with others without saying "but, can't, won't"

I usually start with their stand on a political issue and argue the opposite.

all of the 1 star ratings are from the digital copy saying words are missing and the format is off making it hard to read.. It's only $.50 but possibly still not worth it.
