Older, first gen Kevo for those wondering.

EDIT: Before anyone asks. Difference between the two. [zendesk.com]
Quote from link :
Kevo Smart Lock, 2nd Gen features an all new, smaller and sleeker interior. The interior size has been dramatically reduced.
Kevo Smart Lock, 1st Gen dimensions: 7.4" x 3.25" x 1.75"
Kevo Smart Lock, 2nd Gen dimensions: 5.75" x 2.75" x 2"
Furthermore it is BHMA Grade 2 certified and UL listed for best residential security. Its interior also features a metal housing compared to the plastic housing of the Kevo Smart Lock, 1st Gen. The Kevo Smart Lock, 2nd Gen features a Bluetooth window that can be secured (optional) to prevent unauthorized access to the programming features for improved security. Optional 30 second Auto-locking is now also included. Overall Kevo Smart Lock, 2nd Gen is a much more refined and proven product compared to Kevo Smart Lock, 1st Gen.

Thanks for the clarity. I didn't know there were different generations.

I wouldn't recommend the first gen Kevo. I went to the National Builders Show and after the presentation I was sold on it, yet it seemed really expensive. My wife got one with her CC rewards and I installed it. Very hit or miss product. The key fob works ok but the phone app is very inconsistent, somedays it works some days not. I took the garbage out twice over the year without having my key fob or phone the door looked me out somehow. Then the fobs would only work if you touch them on the lock, which defeats having them. I talked to someone at Kwikset and they sent me a 916 in exchange. I ended up buying another Kevo for $60 on clearance at Best Buy. It is starting to act up too. If you look at the reviews it is also not a safe lock as a hammer can knock the face off and a thief can touch the wire inside and gain access. So skip this and look at the Schlege instead.

the only thing that will change is the orientation of the inside door handle

Thanks OP. Picking up the Schlage and returning the Schlage connect from last week. Save 20 bucks I prefer the door handler on this one vs the one for $199.00

It should be hard to get the different orientation at the customer desk if you have the wrong one. HD values customer satisfaction

I too advocate for the Schlage 100%. It is better, I think, in just about every way. Much more secure, more reliable, tamper/forced entry alarm, better battery life, and looks great to boot. I have the Schlage Connect, but the only difference is Z-Wave vs. Bluetooth/Homekit. Can't go wrong with either of those. Definitely the best smart lock on the market right now and there isn't really anything that can begin to compete with it.

Just want you to be aware that the Sense and Connect use completely different ways to communicate. If you don't have a smart home platform or prefer using Bluetooth/Homekit, Sense is the easy choice and you'll be very happy.

Thanks for the post. Unfortunately I am still looking for a sale on the version with Zwave/smartphone remote app and alarm notifications for when kids use their code to come in after school.

Just found my answer. Thanks for the info. Looks like it will not work with ST.

nothing beats experience. Being locked out must have made you really hate the stupid thing.

That time was bad because my wife let me in and could have been worse. Yet it lead me to contact kwikset. Another day I was locked out when I came home from work and it came out that night.

I'm really looking at the Schlage one but the RH model is sold out. the LH one says it is universal/reversible but I don't really believe it. Do you guys have any insight?

I have this style lever on all of my doors in my house. The handle can be swapped in either direction with a pin that comes with the set. I believe the proper way to install it is with the curve as shown in the photos, but if you take the handle off and flip it upside down it works just fine and looks normal too. Since this door set only comes with one lever I guess it's sold as left vs right handed. They can be installed either way however.

I installed the sense deadbolt about a year ago and I love it. I get a notification on my phone everyone the door is locked or unlocked and I can see in the app what code was used to get in so I know who got home. I really have no complaints.
