Gearbest price is now $20!!

DEAL IS DEAD. Price increased to $24

This is a promotional price, and at least $7 cheaper than either banggood [banggood.com]or gearbest [gearbest.com] sites. What makes this a particularly slick deal, is the availability of open source firmware hacks for the camera [gadgetvictims.com]. The actual hacks are available from Github:

https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks

For a real-world comparison, review the iSmartAlarm Spot camera [ismartalarm.com], 720P for $99 USD.

Very helpful web page is located here [bobbyromeo.com].

RTSP stream URL should be
Code:
rtsp://ip-address/unicast

This camera is not able to be used outside of China! (I think only the newer version with the reset button instead of hole.) Read these threads of people having the same problem:

I read that you need to use xiaomi's app for this, as RTSP/HTTP are disabled. can firmware hacks enable them? Or is there still no way to use this with a more robust camera program like ispy or blueiris?

It's in the op, apparently it is hackable.

With the hacks though, you seem to lose DVR.

"hackable" doesn't mean you get completely full control and/or the ability to do whatever you want though. you're still limited by the hardware and the maximum size/complexity of the firmware.
the hack linked lists RTSP as an option, but before I drop money on several of these I'd want to be sure that I can use them with my ispy server

losing local DVR isn't a dealbreaker, I assume that means you lose the ability for it to save files to the microSD card? most IP cameras don't even have a local storage option so it's not anything major to lose IMO

edit: I found a video detailing the hacked firmware (and how to install it, very convenient), it looks as if it's usable in tinycam which means ispy should be a viable option as well. I'd still welcome any feedback from someone who's actually tried/used one

Yes, tinycam works fine with the RTSP hack. I have one of these and am pleased. Just received three more this morning that I have to set up.

If you're okay with the default app, the motion triggered notifications also work fairly well.

So I bought a xiaofang camera from banggod when it was $23.99 a few months back. For the last month it has been conistently $26.99 . The picture quality, although 1080p only matches my 720p ant yi camera, and perhaps slightly worse as it's a grainier picture. That said it's still a beautiful picture compared to my 480p cameras. Hacking it is not straightforward either, especially since I'm a computer guy that already hacked the yi. I had to read most the shell scripts and get help on the forums. Additionally I couldn't figure out without permanently disabling the cloud service how to not have to physically re-insert the micro sd card with the hack every time the camera reboots, and the sd card needs to stay in the camera at all times. Mostly this isn't a problem because the camera doesn't reboot and my power doesn't go out. That said the yi camera, once hacked stay hacked, you don't have disable the cloud service, so you can view it from your phone after it's hacked, and it doesn't required the sd card to stay in the camera after being hacked, and it can be rebooted no problems. All in all the yi camera is a better camera, but my concern is, since I already have 5 yi ants, is yi pushing a mass firmware update and bricking my whole camera system. [i.e. putting all my eggs into one basket] . I don't have any experience with them doing that, but zmodo did a few months back, so whose to say yi won't. So that said I will be on the lookout for more cheap xiaofang cameras. And that said zapals appears to not be well rated. There are multiple complaints out there that their service, especially around returns is poor. So at this point I'm not sure I'm willing to risk zapals although it's tempting @ 19$ and I really want about 4 more xiaofang cameras.

This xiaofang camera does work with Blue Iris, once hacked.

Side note: I used the xiaofang hack from 1 month ago.

Hope this helps!!!

4.88 of 10 rating at http://resellerratings.com/store/Zapals.
Only eleven reviews, and many are from 2015 and 2016.
At $19 per camera, it's a small risk, unlike $80-to-$100 per camera for other makes/models.
