Do you know with 100% certainty? Also, for those familiar with unlocked phones, could you point me to a good link to better understand the benefits and possible risks? I have Verizon if that matters at all.

No risk and you can use the unlocked phone with other carriers if you decide to leave VZW. Except for Sprint. Can't use on Sprints network. Also, for out of the country it is useful too. Can pop in a prepaid sim.

Also, if you decide to sell the phone the value is a little higher.

Not buying an "unlocked" Samsung again until they clarify their update policy. Still waiting on Nougat on my unlocked S7

Verizon had a great Black Friday deal on iPhones, s7s and pixels, $10 a month after bill credits for 24 months. Wondering if something else like that will come out. Probably won't happen until initial sales die down, maybe June or after.

Yes. In my crystal ball the price on EVERY non Nexus/Pixel Android phone drops. I'm still laughing about getting the GS6 Edge from Best Buy for $199 minus $200 Samsung gift card making it free after tax. It's just the way Android is. Will retail have it cheaper....maybe not for a while. If you're a slickdealer...it will only get cheaper and cheaper.

This isn't the same as the universally sold unlocked version. This is the Verizon model, which happens to have the side effect of being GSM unlocked, as all Verizon LTE phones are. This means it will get version updates day and date with other Verizon S8s.

This is the same model number Verizon uses for their S8's (950U). This very well could be a Verizon phone, unlike the global unlocked model that the S7 (930U) had.

It's confusing with the S8, because the Best Buy Global Unlocked model will also be a 950U. I have no idea on the software differences.

My AT&T S8 I got on launch is also the 950U. I guess that means when they release the unlocked firmware, we can flash them across devices like with the S7! Woohoo.

From what I've seen, there's only one hardware SKU in the U.S. for the S8 and S8+ models. This means that the hardware is the same across all carriers, but they likely do something on the software side to disable certain radios/network bands from being active This is different from last year where each carrier had their own SKU.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for what was a little bit of a silly question in retrospect. I was just curious if you knew something but absolutely I can see prices going down at some point. Just hoping it is sooner rather than later. Would really like this new phone.
