a similar version of this product is retailing for $349 at most other sites including Amazon and others. Costco has listed it for $299 and is giving at $100 instant discount. Key differences between Costco (R8300 model) vs others (R8500 model) are

1. Costco model has 1 USB 3.0 port, other model has an additional USB 2.0 port
2. Costco model is limited to 600 mbps on 2.4 GHz band, other model can go upto 1000 mbps.

Lowest price on Amazon for R8500 is $229 per the Camel.

Was $50 off until few days ago, looks like Costco increased promotion to $100 off to move the units.

Note: item is available in my local Costco, you may call and check (item #1069537)

I bought this for their previous sale price of $249. Time to get a price-match... Gotta love Costco!

Definitely a steep drop in price. I'll talk to the family about it and see what they say. Thanks for posting OP.

Are these the same version are the other store ones? The way I remember, the netgear Nighthawk @ costco was not the same as retail. Netgear was horrible at providing support/updates for the costco bulk Nighthawk version. So I returned mine and will never consider Netgear specifically from Costco if its a tailored unit for bulk stores and not the regular retail).

I checked this as well. The costco version has one less usb and different speed on the lower band. It was 600 vs 1000 on r8500. Also firmwares are not interchangeable. So the R8500 will get updates faster vs R8300 (costco)

Thanks for calling this out. I'll update the original post.

Costo model specs https://www.netgear.com/home/prod...-techspecs

vs

Genric R8500 model specs https://www.netgear.com/home/prod...-techspecs

This Costco unit appears to be missing a USB 2.0 port, and the 600 vs 1000 mbps on 2.4 GHz, other than that it's same?

Then again, for most users who don't use device-to-device transfers, 600mbps speed is enough for internet-to-device I guess?

I bought and setup this router already. My purpose was to expand wifi coverage in my 2500+ sqft 2 story home. That goal has been met spectacularly in these first few hours. I was previously using a Netgear cable modem + router combination.

The deal is live for another 30 days, I will monitor and report back on performance / uptime / reboot / network failures here for those who want to wait and watch Smilie

just bought this to cover 1600 sqft one floor house at 5Ghz. This covers every corner even the backyard. I am coming from a Asus RT-68 which was stable for 2 years, hope this one will be as good.

I bought this today.. hardware issues within first hour.. seemed to overheat and solid Amber light on power which Netgear started as hardware failure.. I plan returning for another one. In the hour I used it coverage was great in my larger sized home..

Frightening! Costco assurance though

Did you run the firmware update that popped up as soon as the router went online?

Costco also has the Linksys EA9500 AC5400 for $100 off ---- $250 for those interested in that model.

I did but found only two listings, appeared to be using the same image?

I had a Netgear modem router combo work well for last 3 years, willing to give them a chance. Else, Costco saves the day.

Why would you get this over a mesh wifi system like Eero or Google Wifi? The performance and reliability with mesh networking puts all of these single-node routers to shame.
