I've been posting optical drive deals for years.

There are 2 Annual Deals around Black Friday/Cyber Monday:
1) LG 14X Blu-ray Burner for $29.99. (This deal usually lasts only for 4 to 6 hours per manufacturer agreements)
2) Asus 12X Blu-ray Burner for $29.99 AR (usually with a $20 or $30 rebate involved).

This is a 16X Blu-ray Burner. Those never go on sale during Black Friday to be honest. This Asus model sells regularly for $39.99 AR. The lowest price it's ever been is $34.99 AR. There is an LG model as well that hovers in the high $40 or low $50 range on sale year-round.

The drive prices most likely will not come down any further this year because there haven't been any advancements in optical disc technology besides Ultra HD Blu-ray. The highest max speed for BD-Rs is 16X, which most media doesn't even support on paper. There is also BD-XL and M-Disc Support, but most of the drives out now already support that.

The first Ultra HD Blu-ray Burners have been released by Pioneer in January 2017 in Japan: HERE [extremetech.com] and sell for ~$176 on eBay, but have very strict requirements due to advancements in content protection.

If I had to bet money, you will not see this ever below $30 again (including Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2017).

Pros: it runs not great tho.
Cons: It does not play 4k movies at least the ones I own. "Life of Pi and Ender's Game."

All you really need are MakeMKV and Handbrake. This link walks you through the basics. You can play with the settings in both pieces of software to get things the way you like them, but getting started is pretty easy.

Plex is a great way to stream them from your TV to other devices in the house (or outside, if that's beneficial).

I suggest rushing if you want to purchase this.

They will almost certainly kill the promo code tomorrow as $27.99 AR is the lowest price a 16X Blu-Ray Burner has EVER been by far.

I will have to investigate further, but I believe it may be a re-badged LG or Lite-on Drive also.

The lowest I've seen for this kind of blu-ray burner was $29.99 after rebate, this is just $2 lower. I'm really wondering if a Blu-ray player/burner is necessary in this day and age. Can't decide whether to get or not. Any thoughts on how low these burners can go this year?
