This is a pretty good deal at MicroCenter if you are in the market for a powerful gaming laptop. It is cheaper than the previous FP deal a month ago. It is $1399 plus tax if applicable.

Potability, performance, screen all good except really bad speakers. It also ahs CPU and GPU throttling little bit but unnoticeable.

Yeah it would help to not get hopes up to mention this is in-store only - closest store is 400 miles away :|

I bought this exact one when a similar deal came up a couple months ago. I really really like this laptop. I also own an Alienware 15r2 and between the two I like this one better overall. The keyboard with the ROG is much better than the Alienware. When I traveled with the Alienware I felt like I had to always bring an external keyboard with me. The only real advantage the Alienware has is that I have the graphics amplifier for it, so now it's basically just a desktop computer for me.

I own this with the 6th gen intel chip... same spec. otherwise.
Pretty solid laptop.
had it about 6 months now... zero quality issues.
not the smallest unit, but definitely not the biggest.
if you arent confined to the ULTRABOOK size, this is just hands-down the most powerful (or very very close)laptop you can get for the money.

Plenty of great conversation in this thread: https://slickdeals.net/f/9992184-asus-rog-strix-gl502vs-ws71-intel-i7-7700hq-gtx-1070-8gb-gddr5-16gb-ddr4-ram-1tb-hdd-256gb-ssd-1399?src=SiteSearch

Overall, great value for the price and what you get. I run HTC Vive VR on this and have no problems with it.

I owned the 17" ones, it's super smooth and snappy in performance, very slim bezels surprisingly light for the structure. fans can get a tad noisy and also speaker are below average, plus it's not IPS ( as far as I know for 17"). battery is average.

Picked one up this morning, thanks OP! It's charging at the moment, but looks sleek. The space bar feels a bit weird but I think I'll get used to it.
