Walmart.com has the Apple iPod 6th Generation 64GB (refurbished) in both Space Gray and Blue for only $163.11. Two-day shipping, free in-store pick up.

Space Grey (MKHL2LL/A) Walmart #563472062 - Sold and shipped by Walmart - $163.11 [walmart.com].

Blue (MKHE2LL/A) Walmart #563472005 - Sold and shipped by Walmart - $163.11. [walmart.com] NLA

By contrast, Apple retails these new for $299 [apple.com].

Apple sells them refurbished for $249 [apple.com].

The next best price I could find on a refurbished 64GB 6th generation was "open box" from Best Buy for $243.99 [bestbuy.com] (new $299.99, on sale now for $279.99).

My reasons for buying an iPod Touch in this age of smart phones is;
  1. Cost. This is pretty inexpensive if you have a need for it.
  2. Great to give to the kids or family when you want them to have access to the movies, games and apps, but not access to making calls (yes, you can make calls and send messages via some apps - I'm speaking in general terms).
  3. These are great for office/professional use. A good digital recorder can cost $100 easy and this makes for a great recorder and does so much more. You also get a decent camera, document scanner, etc. with no need for cellular service or wifi.
  4. My Dash Cam made by some no-name Chinese manufacturer costs almost this much and the quality is so-so and the file format it creates is a nightmare. These make for a very good dash cam (with the appropriate app) and can be taken out of the car and used for so many other things.
Best alternative to the iPod Touch IMO is a non-activated iPhone 5s or higher. However, I've found the prices to often be more than this deal from Walmart and the phones are bulkier and not compliant in "no cell phones allowed" situations.

How do these work with Last.fm scrobbling? The old ipod classic is perfect for scrobbling tracks from a mp3 player and I can't find those anymore. I'm now looking to upgrade to an iTouch, but if these don't scrobble as well as the classics then that's a shame.

Yeah, I've seen some good deals from time to time. For me, I use this in my work daily. It's a smaller profile and I'm often in situations where cell phones are not allowed. So, an iPod Touch still allows me all (most) the function of my iPhone, while still complying with the rules in those situation.
