These 1070 deals are pretty weak compared to those 1080 @ 420 deals. If another of those pop up I'll pounce on that instead.

This card does not have a backplate, for those who were wondering.

No it doesn't... this is the Black Edition which comes without the backplate... how do I know...? I have one.

Edit: Going to even include a Newegg link which has photos of it. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Pr...6814487265

Good deal for those who don't have to pay tax through Amazon (is there anyone left?). The tax kills it for me. I'm left with buying computer components through Newegg.

Probably not unless its stated, they have had game promos in the past and had to get them pulled
amazon does not handle game promos well at all. They tend to give you your game code as soon
as you order and people cancel keep the free game...its not that hard to put it on a peace of paper
and put it it in the box with the product. Or email it after it ships. But that seems to be to much effort for amazon

The black edition is actually cheaper than the non black. some think it's black premium like with amd phenom II but in this case black just means slightly higher oc (negligible) and no backplate.

efficacy of backplate is a point of contention but it does indeed prevent card sag. that said i have had many cards w/o backplates and even after years the amount of sag is not important. on the other hand it has also been demonstrated that a backplate can trap heat, so there is that to think about.

The best 1080 deal is right now EVGA hybrid for $502, no tax for most. its so good i have been agonizing whether i should buy a whole new clc for the cpu and sell my current asus strix to make room for it. but since it would be essentially a $150-200 loss for me to do so I have decided to stay the strix route instead.

BH photo is my favorite but selection is far less than newegg, which has a greater selection of pc parts than anyone else in the world.

Is it worth it to buy another one for SLI? i bought a new motherboard that supported SLI along with a single 1070 last year, with the intention of getting another one in the future, but i heard less and less companies even care about SLI optimization..

.
the pump on the hybrid is quite noisy. something to keep in mind if you case escapes sound. Its def. audible at idle but compensates for that under load as the noise level doesnt change. That actually bothered me so much i ended up saying "fuk it" and built a custom loop laugh out loud. If i were on a budget i would have probably gone like you with a Strix or with a gaming MSI card for 0db at idle and deal with the slightly increase in temps under load. Pretty much all 1080s overclock to about the same speed anyway so the real advantage of the hybrid is of course temps and noise levels under load but NOT at idle. Also the 120mm fan on that rad is trash (super noisy and 2 pin - who the F still makes 2 pin 120mm fans? oh yeah duh EVGA does) really strongly encourage the buyer to toss it and buy any pwm fan to replace it with
