So the difference between this and the normal offer is $100.... ie you dont have to pay $100 for the companion fare.

Pity they now exclude first class fares.....

The way I read it, you get the Free Companion for an entire year. The $100 annual fare offer sounds like it is limited to once per year.

If that's the case, then this is pretty amazing. You can take someone with you for almost nothing, anywhere Alaska flies, for 12 months.

Edit: The actual offer is not clear on whether it's 1 time use, or for a full 12 months. The post author makes it appear to be unlimited, so is someone able to confirm?

Seems to be 1-time to me:

Visa Signature® cardholders who make any combination of Purchases totaling at least $1,000 that post to the account within 90 days of the account open date will qualify for 30,000 bonus miles and a round-trip coach Companion Fare on Alaska Airlines or Virgin America from $22 (USD) ($0 base fare plus taxes and fees, from $22 depending on your Alaska Airlines or Virgin America flight itinerary) when traveling with another passenger on a paid published coach airfare on the same itinerary, booked at the same time on alaskaair.com.

No- you are wrong.

its quite clear that you get ONE companion fare each year but the first year you do not have to pay the $100. You are reading things that arent there

Buy one ticket, get one for just the taxes and fees ($0 fare plus taxes and fees from just $22) after you make $1,000 or more in purchases within the first 90 days of your account opening.

yes- buy ONE ticket...very clear

Agree that the offer is for one ticket only. But the title is misleading whether intentionally or not.

"Free Companion Airfare (just pay $22 taxes/fees) for a Year for NEW Alaska Airlines Visa Cardholders in May & June" (emphasis mine).

This is not very clear...free companion ticket ALL YEAR LONG, multiple times, for as many tickets as I buy, or just once?

Free companion ticket all year is different than ONE free ticket during a year.

Would be a hot deal if it was more than one free ticket like the title misleads.

Sigh. Title isn't misleading. Bolded part in the op is a copy and paste directly from their newsletter which I linked in source.

FYI: There are two versions of this card, even though there is a single application. If BoA gives you a credit limit of under $5,000 you will not receive the Visa Signature card, you'll receive the Visa Platinum card.

The Visa Platinum card only offers a 5,000 point sign-up bonus and NO COMPANION benefit.

Please consider this before applying.

I have an 810 credit score and Bank of America only approved me for a $4,000 credit line a few weeks back, meaning I only get 5,000 bonus points. It seems like a bait and switch that you can apply for a credit card offering 30,000 miles and at the sole discretion of BoA only receive 5,000. They stated that I had too much available credit. I had a friend apply in the same time frame, 730 credit score, also a $4,000 credit limit.

Yep, agree. I was going to apply until I saw this.
