ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 Tri-band 4x4 AC5300 Gaming WIFI Router with 8-port Gigabit Router - $291 - Possible Price Mistake

So I'm pretty sure this is a price mistake, but Best Buy has the New ASUS GT-AC5300 router right now for $291.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-...Id=5775807

This is not to be confused with the older Asus RT-AC5300. The GT model just came out 2 weeks ago and sells for $399 everywhere. Looks like they removed the AC5300 model from their website and changed the GT model to that price.

Edit: I got the wrong model

amazon price matched. the three C's show this router has been steadily declining in price and, while a good deal, and something that I'm considering purchasing, is definitely not a PM

Seems buggy right now. I would wait. But then price might go back up. But still I am not dropping 3 bills and change on any router.

Amazon did not price match this. They have the ASUS RT-AC5300 for $291, not the newer GT model. That is why I think Best Buy Messed up.

this model has only been on Sale since April 26th.

Yeah, the specs shown on Bestbuy website is the newer model. Just wonder they gonna give us the old model when we come to pick it up.

Just got mine and they gave me the correct GT-AC5300 when I picked up.

Not sure why this is getting downvoted, this router is $108 more everywhere else, if you can even find one elsewhere. Newegg has them for $400. I think Best Buy accidentally priced this the same as the RT-AC5300, which is on sale for the same $292 price right now.

Great deal if you've been waiting for this router, I was expecting to have to pay full launch price.

An even more overkill version of spider router. For those wondering, the main difference between this and the regular AC5300 model seems to be number of Ethernet ports (8 vs 4), flash storage/RAM and number of USB ports.

I also leaned GT vs RT because of this VPN Fusion thingy mentioned here, https://www.asus.com/us/Networkin...GT-AC5300/ - yeah maybe it's vaporware and maybe it'll also be available for the RT, but I didn't see it mentioned on the RT product page, and that's a killer feature for me.

This was downvoted automatically when SD'rs saw those magic words. Everybody is so conditioned to suspect it as a false post. However, upon further investigation, OP appears to be right. This is a valid deal.

It's just a split tunnel VPN. Not really new or innovative. Just new to the average computer guy.

true, I don't care if it were 10 gigabit symmetric wireless / Ethernet at 5 miles range. $250 should be the TOL price for a router.. not $300+

its actually in line with all top end routers right now. And when you factor in this price its cheaper.

Linksys - Linksys EA9500 - $348
Netgear X8 - $349
Netgear X10 - $449
D-Link Ultra AC5300 - $400

Maybe so, but that doesn't not make this a slick deal. $111 off the going price is slick regardless of if you think the MFG are charging to much or not. (obviously people are willing to buy it at the higher price).
