Best I can tell.. the $300 and $400 builds don't include windows .. isn't that gonna be 100 more? Plus the 300 and 400 builds use a 2 core Pentium.. this acer is a i5 (I think that is quad core) one of the articles even say not the performance of a i 3 or 5. So the only benefit of the build I see is a graphics card I don't need and can add latter?

In general, its hard to build a PC cheaper than "prebuilts" (from hp, lenvovo, acer, ect) when you're talking about sub $400 PCs. The more expensive the PC, the more you'll save when you build your own.

So yes, you're right. When you factor in the cost of the OS, sometimes its better to buy PCs like this than build your own when you're looking at cheap PCs.

This.
It is nonsense to think you can build a cheap PC cheaper than pre-built unless you want to spent time hunting for deal on each part. It is really not worth it to save couple bucks unless your time is worthless.

Got Microcenter in Houston to price match. Also got 8 GB of RAM and 250GB m.2 SSD. Should make this a decent setup.
