I have only had these Hoover Steamvacs for probably the last 7 years (or close to it). My only complaint is that it doesn't have a built-in heater, so you have put hot water in the tank for the job at hand. I have used the room-temp water/soap mix after sitting in the laundry room a while, and while it still seems like it works fine, I don't feel (probably a mental thing) it is as clean as it would be with hot water. If you get the stain pretty much right when it happens, you should be good. All that said, I'm no professional, so I'm sure that isn't all that accurate. Great unit and well worth this price. Strong suction and sounds like a jet engine.

I bought one of these in 2013 and despite needing an internal cleaning, it's still going strong nearly 4 years later. If you're in the market and want to spend less than a hundred, this is the one to buy. That said I'm likely going to replace my current unit with the super suction version (~$140) as these days I have a dog and would prefer the carpets to dry more quickly Wink REALLY if you're in the market grab this deal while you can. I recommend nearly boiling water, a bit of vinegar and whatever fragrance you like for cleaning without having to rinse the carpet afterwards.

Great price. No rinse only option, which helps to get more shampoo out of the carpet.

I would not own a carpet without a steam cleaner or a carpet small enough to wash.
It is amazing the dirt that is collected in a carpet, and for most people that lasts for years and years.

Is this one better or the Bissell Powerlifter from yesterday for about the same price?

I think I purchased mine back in 2010. Use it maybe 4 times per year. Still going strong today.

I use half hot tap (I think my hot water heater is set to 120) and half boiling water with a scoop or half scoop of oxy clean.
