Should the Ac3100 be a good upgrade over my current Netgear R7000 AC1900? Tempting to bite the bullet.

I would say the key to any ASUS router is to add Merlin firmware, which really improves stability, but keeps the easy to use interface. Much easier to use then DD-WRT.

My refurb RT-AC3100 is running great from New Egg. Merlin installed of course.

I get a promo code issue with EMCRFBC35. Anyone else getting this? I'm trying to get the AC3100 router.

Edit: Nevermind I just needed to check out and purchase. All is good!

Checking out the reviews and it appears to be hit or miss with these refurb routers. Anyone can had any experience with newegg's extended replacement plan? I see there is a 1 or 2 year option.

It's over WiFi. The device he's using is a SM-G935U, which is an Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Bro, I hate you and your fast speeds. Plus on AT&T of all companies. Are you in a Gigabit Test Area? laugh out loud

The Merlin firmware is fantastic. I don't think I will ever own a router that doesn't support it, I'm hooked. That being said, I'm running it on an RT-AC68U conversion of a T-Mobile I picked up on an SD deal for $56 bucks (new) and I have some occasional squirrelyness with it. I'm hoping the scheduled weekly reboot feature will eliminate it.

I give up trying to figure out the root cause because it's just wacky random jams - maybe my VPN, maybe I'm infected with something, maybe this, maybe that - I give up shake head ???

I checked out this deal thinking to upgrade with the hope of fixing my random problems but every model has just 3 stars and plenty of anecdotes that indicate to me ASUS routers might just be prone to this quirkyness.

I got 2 refurb Asus 3100 routers from NewEgg, both were bad, as in not working after 1 and 5 days bad. Look, you might get a good one, but I'm betting they won't lost very long (1-3yrs max) compared to the rock solid router I have now.

Agree. I never had problems with refurbished products except those sold by NewEgg.
