The Big Berkey, doesn't come close to the filtration power of the Alexapure Pro, & prices on the Berkey can hit as much $312 if you opt for the optional arsenic and fluoride reduction filters they sell,..Alexapure takes out Flouride for $99.99 ? This is a Steal.

That filter won't last forever and if it costs $97 to replace it, it's a deal killer. That's what he was saying. It's why people shy away from supposedly cheap all in one printers--the replacement ink prices.

And Typing Like This Is Obnoxious

Got this as a gift last year from son in law and he swears by it. Good quality stainless steel. I usually do the drip filtering over night. I would guess it would take 4-5 hours to filter the whole 2 gallons. Infowars has them on sale now for $147, A new filter alone is $97. If you're into this sort of thing, then jump on this.

I kind of want this as a replacement for my cheaper Pure but the reviews for the replacement filters on amazon kind of make me go nope. If they actually last for anywhere near 5,000 Gallon than its worth it to me. But if it does not replacements would be too expensive and this will just become a useless pick of junk with overpriced filters.

Advertised at 5,000 gallons. At a gallon per day the math is 13+ years, Doesn't kill the deal for me.

A gallon? One, that's only what the company claims. Rarely are companies like this accurate. Two, even my dog drinks more than a gallon a day. A few people in a household, a pet or two, cooking, coffee, etc.....far more than a gallon a day.

LOL I just read the OP again. It says "Up to" 5,000 gallons. The old "up to".

Detroit water maybe last you a week. if you have already good well water it should last you a long time.

The up to probably depends on how clean the 'source' water is already. I'm not saying it is a bad deal, I was just pointing out the price of the consumables. To save others from having to go look for that info.

I checked the thread as I was looking for water filtration for my hurricane kit. Thsi is a bit to bulky for me. I'll probably go with something like this [lds.org]. BTW, very nice price at the LDS, bless their saintly hearts.

Exactly, and knowing that virtually all companies engage in puffery, it would have to be the most ideal situation. Plus, who would want to drink water that being run through an 8, much less a 12 year old filter.

Up to is the same as when a company says "we may" or "it may". Translation, we won't but we might. LOL I used to work for a company that used that in its sales pitch. I quit because they they never "did".
