Decent leather, not top notch, not bad either. And for the price, great.

These discounted prices are probably a more accurate reflection of their quality than the ludicrous MSRP.

Cole Haan ain't what it used to be but this seems like good value for rainy-day office footwear. Maybe a year or two out of them before the glue starts coming apart.

Obviously different style but for around $70 you can find some timberlands at similar price I bought a couple pairs over the last month. $200 retail is ridiculous. Probably boot sales around spring/ summer is cheaper compared to winter months

is it just me, or is it too much to ask for a simple conservative looking Chelsea style boot?

/shrug. Lose the name and you've got just another imported boot with corrected grain leather and a cemented sole.

Cole Haan used to be a great American company but these days it's a distinguished brand run by an investment group, no different than Johnston and Murphy or Bostonian. Nothing wrong with that but it means the emphasis has been on reducing costs (i.e. quality) while retaining the premium price.

To be clear I think at $50 these are good value, but don't be fooled into thinking you are getting ~$300-quality shoes. A $300 pair of shoes that you could fairly say is WORTH that amount should last you decades, properly maintained. No matter what you do with these they are unlikely to go more than a few seasons.

if you travel internationally to one of those lower labor cost countries in Asia with favorable currency conversion dynamic, be sure to pick up local hand made genuine leather shoes.

you'll thank me for the lifetime of the shoe, which should be forever.

I have a couple of pair of Cole Haan boots. One is a brown leather which is wearing very nicely it seems like it will last a long time. The other is very light colored suede it seems to be made a little lower in quality than the leather. I know they have a outlet chain and all the foot wear they sell there appears to be low quality different from what you find at Nordstrom and Dillard's.

I wish could find a deal on nice looking good quality boot with a decent tread. Seems like all the nicer looking boots have little to no tread.
