Good deal. I own three of them, but I'm thinking about ordering another one just because of the price. The normal price is $100, but the blue model has been $80 for a while.

If you plan to use the built in microphones, then you are probably going to want to also order a wind screen. I was walking around the house while recording and I was getting wind noise just from the air movement of my normal walking speed. Recording outside in the wind is a total waste of time without the wind filter. The Auray WRF-H1 is a foam filter and it does a good job. It also makes the recorder look like a microphone.

Will this pick up audio from, say, a government agency head that I happen to be conversing with?

Seems like a good deal. I had a zoom h4n that was bigger and more powerful, but that thing was $250.

For $65 seems like an awesome value.

Isn't is absolutely amazing what we can do now with regards to audio recording in such a small form factor for under a hundred bucks?!

Is the Blue model inferior somehow, or just color difference?

From my understanding, just a color difference.

you can. you just have to sync the audio up afterwards. it's not as useful for vlogging as it is for floating head type videos in a studio or in your room. that is unless you buy a lavalier mic to use with it. in which case it could work well but is not as portable.

for vlogs i'd personally use a shotgun mic. all you'd need is your mic and camera and you're ready to go.

Here's an interesting $15 upgrade to the Zoom H1:

For those of you who use this for recording DSLR video sound, how well does it work to avoid the autofocus noise that the camera's built in mic records? Do you recommend mounting this to your camera like a shotgun mic?

Was hoping to use something like this to plug into the camera, so I don't have to sync the audio later.
