Seems like a nice grill, but I none at my local Home Depot. I need to lay hands on it before hand. Anyone have an experience with this grill?

pointless to be stainless steel on the outside (and probably not 304 stainless steel) if your grates are porcelain coated. What good is it to have a pretty outside if the one part touching your food isnt stainless steel and thus will likely rust out in 2 yrs.

check my review of this costco model:
https://www.costco.com/Stainless-...10763.html

yes it is $800 in store, $850 online, but it is 100% 304 stainless steel throughout

I agree with your comments about the stainless. But it's equally as pointless to compare a $280 grill to an $800 grill. it's like saying a Mercedes is better than a Ford Focus.

i wasnt comparing at all. i was saying dont buy this because of the non-stainless steel grates.

in anticipation of what people would then say, such as "what should I buy, i dont have $2k for a weber" i provided a reasonable, albeit of course more costly, alternative.

Problem is if people are looking in the $200-$300 range offering an $800 alternative doesn't help. There have been quite a few all stainless in the $275-$350 range that would be better alternatives. The stainless quality on those could be better but at least they were all stainless and priced competitively.

i dont think there are Sub $350 all stainless steel - and by ALL stainless steel, i mean the grates, burner and flavorizer bars are stainless steel. In fact, outside of this costco model, they are typically $2500.

There have been quite a few actually. The outside, grill grates and bars, all stainless. Again though they weren't the best stainless, but they were stainless. As well as being more in a competitive price range.

This one is at BJ'S and despite the add saying porcelain coated grates they were stainless when I went to see it on the shelf. I did not think the stainless was the best quality nor the grill as heavy as it should be but for $200 it was by far the nicest I've seen.

There was another deal posted not too long ago that I missed that was sub $400 but I can't find it at the moment. I'll try again later.

There was also this one that I have not yet looked at and seems too good to be true.

looks nice if it is stainless steel for $200...no side burner and less storage underneath , but nonetheless a good deal, id get that over the one in this post.

You are not going to find a grill with 304 stainless flame box and grates for $300. You saying "dont buy this because it has non-stainless grates" is the exact same thing as saying "spend 3 times as much for other grill".

There are cheap stainless steel grills, but it is guaranteed they use a very thin cheap 430 stainless. Easiest way to tell is check with a magnet. Cheap 430 stainless has a high iron content and magnets stick to it. Quality 304 stainless will not allow magnets to stick to it.

Also due to the high iron in 430, it is much harder to weld and the welds of 430 typically rust. Pretty much all 430 grills are bent and assembled with screws, no welding at all. If you see welds on a girll, it is most likely 304... and most likely costs $2k+.

Thin 430 will deform and pretty much fall apart in 2-4 years. Thick 430 will hold up for quite a while 5-10 years or so. Thick 304 will pretty much last forever.

Just a FYI: Even Weber stopped using 304 many years ago and uses thick 430 on its stainless grills now.

The one at BJ'S actually did have a side burner. It's less storage which isn't a deal breaker I don't think. It also felt pretty decent weight wise. I'm thinking it's likely the best bang for the buck at the moment, but I'm still kind of looking. I've been really unhappy with the last few we've bought. All issues from really uneven heat, to no heat, to rust, all aggravating. And I just can't get to spending $800-$1000 for a BBQ. Just seems crazy to me personally.

I wondered the same on the Aldis unit too. Just how thin they could make it, it's like who knows, guess someone will have to look at it. If I can get by there to see it I'll report back.

Big lots had one from Thermos and it was comparable to what we're discussing but it was total junk.

Worth a quick note BJ's has a decent warranty and Aldis has a 2 year (on what parts I'm not certain).

Worst part is no middle ground anymore. $200 jumps to $500. I'd love to find a $300-$400 decent grill but so far nothing.
