Walmart [walmart.com]is selling 15 lb twin packs of Kingsford Blue Bag Charcoal for $7.88. This is an in-store only deal.

Most of my area stores have this deal...but my local one shows out of stock.
So you're wise to check Brickseek [brickseek.com] before you go.

Nets out to ~$0.262/lb, which puts us right into Front Page territory.

If you're running down your stock, it's not a bad time to make your Memorial Day buy right now.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Who said anything about hard?
It's a feature of lump that doesn't exist with briquettes, each piece of lump is different which means that, by its very nature, it will burn differently than others. Not to mention lump burns hotter, which is something you don't want if you want to do low and slow.

It's not an argument to those of us who actually cook and don't stand around patting ourselves on the back for our "acquired skills", it's fact, but we're not easily amazed either. LMAO

What about when I'm grilling my $0.29 per lb chicken leg quarters?

Because, unlike lump, briquettes offer a controllable heat source that burns with a predictable regularity.
Lump has its place, but there's a reason why most pro cooking teams use briquettes over lump.

Brickseek said there were 96 available at my store (Pontiac, IL). I could only find the 2x16.6lb packages, which rang up at $16.xx. The cashier used the barcode from Brickseek so I could get the $7.88 price.

That was super nice of them and an amazing price! I wonder if this is their Memorial Day deal, leaking out a little bit early. The price/lb is right there, and you'd expect the large quantities to start showing up right about now. If they planned to jump ahead a week, there's the chance of taking market share from HD or Lowe's. The only real price competition seems to come from different sized bags. Different SKUs means nobody has to outprice the other guy.

Can't believe this isn't FP,

The seasonal 2x18 lb. for $9.98 comes to 27.7 cents a pound, and this is lower than that at 26.2 cents a pound (using OP's posted price/size).

Backing up the truck to stock up....

Really hit and miss for stock around me, most say OOS. Gonna wait for HD's sale rather than drive 15 miles. They have about 700 in stock at my store only a mile away...

Where have you found lump deals? I only got one once at Costco when they were clearing out summer stuff. Thanks.

Just a FYI. Wear shoes when u grill with charcoal! I dumped the coals out of the chimney and onto the grill. A tiny piece must have fallen out somewhere. Felt like I had stepped on a bee. Ouch!

just checked Wal Mart under brickseek and they have the 15.44lbs of royal oak lump charcoal for $9.87 which is a decent deal.
