I use a tbsp or two of Kosher salt and damp paper towel. Scrubs, cleans and retains your seasoning. Also, the occasional soap and water doesn't hurt things like some suggest.

I have an 8 year old Lodge that's been through a LOT until I finally figured things out. Now the surface is like glass.

I can attest to the bad reviews, bought one and returned it as it fell apart the 2nd day I owned it. My 1 star review is in their somewhere. As for as what it was made for it's for their cast iron skillets, dutch ovens, etc. which are one of the best brands money can buy. If you're into cast iron purchase the chain mesh then just use course salt and water, done.
