Great pack! I've been backpacking for the last year and living out this pack pretty much the entire time. I love the zip off day pack.

Do you feel like you have plenty of extra room? I'm debating btwn this and the 40L kind. 40L doesn't have a detachable pack, but I can always get one of those foldable lightweight ones and stuff it.

Damn, I had been hoping this would go on sale. Unfortunately, I leave tomorrow for 2 weeks in Costa Rica, so too late for me to order this. Good find though.

Farpoint 55 is at this price on a number of sites (moosejaw, backcountry, campsaver, webtogs, etc.). Cheaper than normal, but ehhhh.

A quick check shows even ebags is marked down to $135--and they have 15% CB through various offerings. It was actually cheaper last week at ebags using a $50 off $150 coupon + 15% (and that reported deal didn't get much love).

People must be really starved for osprey deals if they're trying to push this one to FP.

Any reason not to use this a hiking backpack for a multiday backcountry trip? Seems like it is marketed more as an urban travel backpack, but I figured it could do both.

IMO it's actually pretty big for urban travel--it wouldn't even work as a carryon (40 version is just right). Even without the daypack attached, the 55 is plenty large enough for multi-day hikes. Good support and padding... Really depends on the size of your sleeping bag. For hiking, I went with a version that has an expandable bottom compartment for larger sleeping packs.

BTW, you do realize that almost all off the osprey packs are currently marked down? The Farpoint 70 and 80 (with zippered lower compartment) are both only $150...

Awesome backpack, but I'm not sure I'm invested enough in backpacking to spend this much.

Tks for new info. I'm newbies here. I just knew farpoint 55 from last deal here so I'm waiting to buy one for my trips to Vietnam and you are right, ebags is cheaper with cashback deals. Any recommend for packing cube?

I used this same pack traveling Europe for 3 weeks and was successfully able to use it as a carry-on for the following airlines:

Aeroflot
EasyJet
RyanAir

YMMV as this bag is slightly larger than their max carry-on. I was never questioned about it though.

Did they ever weigh your bag?
