Use CrystalDiskInfo [crystalmark.info] to identify internal hard drive, whether it is RED drive, etc.

How to shuck/take the hard drive out from enclosure with minimal-to-no damage to enclosure: https://drive.google.com/open?id=...WowS1NJLVU

WD Reds are meant for a NAS/server/always-on environment, Blues are meant for the every-day personal computer.

If you're using the internal drive in a NAS, you want a Red drive. If it's just another spare drive in your computer, Blue will work fine.

Bought six of these last time they were at this price, all Reds, four from Thailand, two from China.

I just use HDSentinel to check before opening the case.

also yo can try CrystalDiskInfo. No need to physically open the case. Just check the drive model (WD80EFZX-XXXXXX)

Usually, I run the following tests (before I put it in NAS or computer)

1 x extended test (using WD Lifeguard tool) 18-20 hours
1 x HD Sentinel self-extended test 15-16 hours
1 x HD Sentinel disk surface test 15-16 hours
1 x low level format with Windows Disk Manager 18-20 hours
1 x extended test (using WD Lifeguard tool) 18-20 hours
empty all partitions

you may call it crazy, but I want to make sure HD is fine before making effort to copy the data.

There can't be Blue drives in these enclosures. Western Digital doesn't make an 8TB Blue.

Its possible it could be blue but scanning over the last few posts in the last deal they where red.

On a sidenote someone stated they opened these and found white labeled helium drives so tread carefully.

Is red better for long term storage?

red drives usually hold up better then blue, because blue is just a basic drive. So yes your less likely to have problems with these drives from what I have heard but this will be the first I have bought of a red one.

Newegg has the WD My Book 8TB USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive WDBBGB0080HBK-NESN
on sale for 200.00 after using a promo code. After factoring in Newegg doesn't charge tax and Bestbuy does there is only a 5.00 price difference between the two hard drives.Any opinions on which is better? The Bestbuy WD 8TB easy store or the WD My Book 8TB? I'm leaning toward the My Book because it has a 3 year warranty and the Easy Store has a 2 year warranty.

I always run the long WD diagnostic against all large drives before integrating into one of my RAIDs.
