the ultra light is also this price. I prefer the shorter ones for kayak fishing. Pretty solid small ones.

Not sure if this is the same one, but I saw a boxed 6.5 combo set for 29.99 at my wm. I'll see if I can get the model number next time I'm in there. Currently in the market for a smaller rod over my 7ft

had a shakespear tiger (17$ at walmart) it was pretty terrible....

Great pole, but the reel is a throwaway item. Still not a bad deal. Use the reel until it fails and then replace it with something better.

Ultra light should be fine for crappie(light jigs/spinner), they are near the bank and easier to catch. From my experience(nebraska) summer bass are ususally near structures or in heavy vegetation area in which case a 7 feet Medium or Medium/heavy with heavier line would be better.
