What do the new ratings mean in a Deal Alert?

1,757 398 May 24, 2017 at 08:01 PM
Last time I setup a Deal Alert I could only choose form 1 thumbs up through 5 thumbs up. Now I see options for Popular, Front Page, Fire 1, Fire 2, and Fire 3. Is there documentation anywhere about what those new options mean and what exactly causes them to be triggered?

Thanks.

I did notice that if you actually drag the slider to each pot it will give you a little bubble about what the "Fire" things mean. Just say something like top 40% of deals, top 10% of deals. I still don't know what that means but it's something.

I have a DA that would email me any time a deal got 5 thumbs up. However, that was basically spamming all the time because people thumbs up everything. So, I wanted to increase the threshold but don't want to go so far I stop getting all the good deals.

I moved it to Front Page for now but don't know what the criteria is for something to end up on the FP...

Was heading back here because I saw those "tool tip" sort of messages when moving the slider too. Exactly - what is the criteria to meet the condition of Front Page... If I find something else I will come back here. Thanks!

front page deals are hand picked by our deal editors based on community feedback, price research, etc. you can read more about the process here: https://slickdeals.net/article/news/slickdeals-101-frontpage-deals-and-popular-deals/

Thanks. That helps with FP and Popular. It'd be nice if that information were linked on the Deal Alert page so people know what they're doing when they change those settings.

For now the fire icons mean the top 15, 10 and 5% of FP deals.
There was some thought about tweaking it but right now that is it.

And how is that calculated? All the deals posted and then ordered by the number of thumbs ups or something?

Every time I try to select "Popular" for the rating level for an alert, it always reports 1 thumbs down after I save it. Anyone else having a similar problem?

UPDATE: Just noticed this is only a problem w/ the desktop when using the website (Windows 7 or Linux 16.04.3 and Chrome).. Using the Slickdeals iOS app worked as expected.
