Plex [plex.tv] and Emby [emby.media] are much superior media servers, however, PlayOn is great for recording videos which can then be accessed via another media server.

Except for the Adskipper feature, watching videos via PlayOn is like using a plain DLNA media server. Plex and Emby each use their own custom protocol to provide more features (and can optionally act as DLNA servers too).

"Lifetime" yeah sure. Lookup what they did for the people who bought lifetime subs in the past. Nope never again.

Yep, I just dropped in to say F PlayOn. Anyone else thinking they will give 2 sh!ts supporting a later product should pull their heads out of the sand.

I've had their lifetime sub for years now, from way back in the early days. The only thing I remember happening was when they created the PlayOn Ad Skip program (which is now part of the main program) and allowed lifetime subscribers the option to pay $10 for the Ad Skip feature. Other than that, I was never kicked off their Lifetime sub.

They should be honest in how they advertise that it's lifetime. It's lifetime for the version you bought just like you bought their program on a dvd and that is your lifetime of that program. If there are any upgrades you need to purchase again.

The Ad Skip dvr program was initially a separate program that they charged another price for. They eventually combined it into the main program and gave lifetime subscribers a discount for it. Upgrades for the main program was always free. Now the Adskip dvr program is part of the main program.

I'm seriously thinking about this since At&t has yet to roll out the Directv Now DVR and ROKU app. https://www.playon.tv/blog/playon...irectv-now

PlayOn just added the DIRECTV NOW channel to its lineup. For DIRECTV NOW customers, that means that you can now have a DVR for your DIRECTV NOW streams. You can watch on your Roku or gaming console (which the native channel does not support). You can record and watch later, offline (again – not supported by the native channel).

Don't fall for this. It is a scam. I am an actual victim, not someone spreading rumors about something I heard secondhand. I paid a flat fee to become a lifetime subscriber and they immediately phased out the software they sent me and claimed I needed to keep paying to get updated software.

I've also have lifetime for 3yrs with playon and have gotten every update so far no fee and I use it mainly to download tv series from netflix/amazon and movies and as far as I'm concerned it has been great

Have you tried to use the keys for the newest software? and granted playon and adskip might be additional addon charge now for you

Huh? Not in my experience..... That said, I still prefer Plex.

Great deal on the software. The whole system is a bit of a kludge so it doesn't always work 100%. Now that many more services support Chromecast it's not as necessary for "live streaming", but recording is awesome. PlayOn recording --> MCEBuddy conversion and ComSkip --> Plex workflow has been working great for me.

Support has always been responsive as well.
