What is the general consensus around buying used DSLRs? I know that DSLRs have a lifespan measured in clicks, and after accumulating tons of clicks begin to have shutter problems and other things. Does refurbishing start the lifespan at 0 again? Or if its a refurbished camera where someone shot 100k photos on previously, is that history still important?

Hmm- just checked amazon and they sell for only $100 more, and of course you get the full warranty on both lenses and the camera.

For this refurb, warranty is 90 days on all 3, and all 3 items are refurb.

Edit: For those interested in this camera and who have a Microcenter nearby, Microcenter is selling this same bundle new, plus the starter kit (bag, extra battery, memory card) for 20% off this week total of $400+ tax.

The 300mm lense is useless without any sort of Vibration Reduction feature or anything. without those features you'll need a tripod or lean against something stable. Just blood pumping through your veins will lead to a blurry picture. Got a D5500 bundle recently and found out the hard way.

To say it's useless is a broad oversimplification. It's very possible to get great shots in good condition using the non-VR model. Check out these shots:

But, having the VR is a huge help. I sold the non-VR model that came with my bundle a few weeks ago on CL, bought a grey market version with VR, and am happy.

oh no trust me! you can get some seriously crisp shots! but without physically stabilizing yourself it's almost useless. (without a tripod of some sort)

I bought the $169 Ebay VR lens and it's been great for what it is!

Silly comment. You can say that about any lens.

You understand what he's trying to say though right? You're not just arguing to be contrary right?

I have a D40, but have collected decent glass for it over the years that I can keep on using.

Is this worth the upgrade?

no...why would anyone buy this when the d5500 kit is only $596? d3400 lacks wifi, sensor cleaner, much slower autofocus, mic input, touchscreen, and most importantly size and feel in hand... don't waste your money on this...

btw, the 70to300mm none VR is awesome...this is the AF-P kit, so extremely quick autofocus, and set your minimum shutter to 200, and you could shoot amazing photos outdoors...and indoors with good lighting and using high iso like 6400.

btw, the d5500 has excellent low light....very little noticable noise even at 6400!

Gidnop, where are you seeing the Microcenter deal? On their website, the price for that bundle is $496.99.

I'm not sure where the deal is on slickdeals, but it was posted here. There is 20% off MicroCenter camera gift cards.

EDIT: Here it is https://slickdeals.net/f/10188960-micro-center-20-off-cameras-and-drones-in-store-only?src=SiteSearch
