The WRT family of routers are the only ones that are compatible with open source.

The EA7300 is a MU-MIMO router, so it can handle more simultaneous connected devices. The EA6700 is not a MU-MIMO router.

Fakespot grades the Amazon reviews for this as a "D" -- so chances are most of the reviews are fake or not reliable: http://fakespot.com/product/links...eam-ea7300

I strongly considered this one, it seems newer and faster for $10 more. However, the reviews on amazon and newegg are uniformly worse, the 5ghz band seems to be unreliable. Also, the refurbished version of the newer router consistently sells for less than the older one in the OP, which likely indicates its unreliability.

Hi Linksys,

This is not entirely correct. The WRT family might be the only ones "officially" supported on your guy's end, but you can install Advanced Tomato and some branches of DD-WRT on the EA6x00 series. I have Advanced Tomato on my EA6700 running right now.

That being said, the EA7300 in this post does not have any 3rd party firmware yet, though there have been rumors of a DD-WRT branch launching at some point in the future.
