Windscribe has been reviewed by TorrentFreak, highlights include:

  • No logs stored. "We do not store connection logs, IP timestamps, or sites you visit (we are firm believer that one's browsing history should be taken to one's grave)."
  • Based out of Ontario, CA, which has no data retention directives that apply to VPN companies.

Product Details (from Tanga.com)
Windscribe encrypts your browsing activity, blocks ads, and unblocks entertainment content.

Stop tracking and browse privately
Governments block content based on your location. Corporations track and sell your personal data. Add Windscribe to your browser and take back control of your privacy.

Unblock geo-restricted content
Windscribe masks your IP address. This gives you unrestricted and private access to entertainment, news sites (like the BBC), and blocked content in over 28 different countries.

Go beyond basic VPN protection
For comprehensive privacy protection, use our desktop and browser combo (they're both free).

Take your browsing history to your grave
Windscribe encrypts your activity, never leaks your DNS information and will never track you.

Stop leaking personal information
Prevent hackers from stealing your data while you use public WiFi, and block annoying advertisers from stalking you online.

We Delete EVERYTHING
Your privacy is a right. We don't track you. We don't keep logs. We erase everything three minutes after your session closes.

This instruction is for people who want to install the Windscribe on the Amazon Fire TV Stick:

Make sure to get the Downloader directly from your Fire TV Stick. If it is not already on the homepage, you simply search for it. After you install it, Launch the app and do the following:

1) After Downloader is installed, type in the following: https://download.strongswan.org/Android/. Make sure to get the strongSwan-1.8.2.apk (second from the bottom). It will ask you to install it after download is completed.
2) Login your Windscribe on your computer and go here https://windscribe.com/guides/manual_android to read the setup guide for StrongSwan Client.

It is very easy. I only did it with the StrongSwan.

Good points. I don't work for Windscribe but they have addressed this concern. Go to Windscribe preferences then in the connection tab, set "Firewall mode" to "Always On". This will make your computer connect purely behind their firewall. So if the VPN connection is lost, your computer can no longer make any connection.

Windscribe has a "killswitch" exactly like that, they just call the feature "firewall" because it's more apropos for what that type of disconnect block does.

Check the legit vpn review sites. Windscribe is legit. I don't understand all the people that try to talk down Windscribe as being "shady" and in the same sentence tell you to use PIA... If you're afraid of a vpn service being tied to the NSA or honoring warrants why would you ever feel safe using a U.S. based VPN?

Speeds aren't perfect with windscribe, but they're better than a few other vpns I did trial runs with. With Windscribe I was getting on average 65mbps on my 75mbps line while Nord only got me around 23mbps and PIA was topping out at 17mbps. Now (months later) I've upgraded to gigabit and without a vpn on I hit around 340mbps at fast.com and with windscribe connected it drops to around 290mbps. There are faster vpns out there, but none that are both faster AND more secure. More secure ones (like Nord) don't get anywhere near the same bandwidth and faster ones are U.S. based, meaning they're definitely NOT more secure. There's always a trade-off.

The only two things Windscribe consistently gets dinged on in reviews is 1) being based in Canada means they're still in the pool of five eyes countries, and 2) they offer incentives to their free users to bump the monthly cap on the free tier in exchange for spamming links on social media.

I paid $68 for my "lifetime" subscription to Windscribe after testing a few other services. If I get a couple years of use out of it I'll feel perfectly satisfied with the product. I only drop in to add my opinion on the service because 1) I actually use the product and I cringe when people offer their opinions on things they don't have first-hand experience with, 2) seeing people crap on a product they've never used stops others who don't know better from buying (or even trying) the service, which then becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when there aren't enough paid customers to keep the company running 3) as I said before, I bought into the service and it works as expected, so I'd like to continue using the service and if more people use it the company sticks around longer and expands their number of servers and as a byproduct has better speeds. Yes, I'm selfish, but it's a good kind of selfish.

Just a heads up but I bought a lifetime of one of these vpns a different company and its complete waste of money. I have a feeling they all operate in the same way in that they can only handle so many connections per server and when the server gets full they bump you off meaning no longer having a VPN. Which means if you're torrenting something anyone can see your IP address. To me it's worth it to pay extra to have something like private internet access where it has a kill switch meaning if you are disconnected from the VPN it cuts off your internet service it's much safer.

I could check their FAQ but the other important questions to ask are is the company located in the United States. Do they keep logs or user warrant Canary. Are the servers located in the United States or other countries. What percentage of your internet speed do you get through the VPN.

Do they keep logs(whoops they claim they delete logs with 3 mins, so never mind there), allow torrents and junk ? How good is it compared to PIA? Speeds, etc. ?

My track record with "lifetime" anything is awful. Too many times my lifetime deals have gone belly up.
