Holy crap, that's expensive.

Couldn't you do this with an Android phone and a clock app?

I know it's not for everyone. It's different than just a clock. You can program it to do a lot of things, not just receive notifications from different apps and smart home services.

Like the one example they have: pressing a button to summon a taxi. If you are an IFTTT user or are into smart home products, this thing can get kinda fun, albeit at a price.

Figured I would share because of the price drop if anyone was eyeing it in the past.

If you spend $169 on this then the clock would be still smart but you wouldn't

Yeah its insanely priced for what it is. You can get a $20 android phone that has a display larger than 8x30 giant pixels or whatever this has, and comes with built in speakers and storage. Root it and you can make it do pretty much anything you want.

This seems like a company trying to jump on the "smart things" band wagon buy adding "smart" to their product and then charging an arm and a leg.

It's not for anyone here at $169. It's a glorified clock with some half-baked extras. If you are in this general price point (and need a multi-function device like this) get an Amazon Echo Show.

Saw the IFTT integration and as a gadget whore, I really tried to justify one, but it would need about $49.99 for the impulse-regret-later-dust-collection buy.

I'm with you. Very cool clock. Crazy price. Could maybe sucker me in for Max $50 bucks.
