just buy a separate SSD and upgrade it yourself (either clone original HDD or make windows recovery tool and do a fresh install). Cost will depend on the size of SSD u want but it'll be significantly faster and very noticeable. It takes like 30minutes to do the swap (this model is a little annoying to do and you should watch a youtube video before trying) and maybe an hour to clone/reinstall windows. On the flip side, you likely won't notice a difference between 12gb and 16gb of RAM or an i5 vs i7 for 95%+ of uses. There would be a small performance increase between 5400 and 7200 but it'll still feel slow, esp compared to using an SSD. Just make sure to get the right form factor (SATA; not m.2 or NVME)

Yes because a laptop with an m3 CPU, 4 GB of RAM, and an SSD would run significantly smoother than this. SSDs are obligatory. A laptop could have 32GB of RAM and a new i9 processor, but it will still only run as well as its bottlenecking mechanical HD. Don't get fooled by the RAM/CPU gimmicks; look at the machine as a whole.

I think laptops are generally too expensive right now. I can't comment on how much of a deal this is relative to others, but my old i5 laptop is only slightly slower. I'm tired of dual cores costing this much, needs to be quad core standard by now.

$550 for this seems solid. Only thing I might miss is the SSD. Otherwise it checks my list of needs for a nice price.

The coupon says it is $100 off regular price, but the discount came off the $649?

they also have the I7, 4gb more ram and 7200rpm hard drive for 100 more. I'm highly considering it. I bought an Asus from bestbuy a couple days ago and not too pleased with it. May get the I7 HP instead.
