The santoku is a good cheap knife with good weight and easily hones and sharpens. I would *highly* recommend it at this price and use it daily along with my Victorinox. This is the cheap under $10 knife you've been looking for. 7" is a great size for most.

I don't know much about this but I am really in need of a half way decent chef's knife right now. This looks like it will do the trick. Usually I put more research into my purchases.

Had the chefs knife for the last 3 years and it is still going strong. Very sharp and balanced. In for a santoku knife.

I've heard great things about Victorinox chef knives and was looking at getting one. In your opinion is there a noticeable difference between the two?

These knives may be good, I have no experiance. But to contribute and pass along some related knife info:

Another SDer recommended the Ikea VÖRDA knives in this price range and I am very happy with the 2 I got. Well balanced, easy to use and sharpen.

Cool, was in need of a santoku. This will hold me over until I see a slick deal on victorinox.

I just bought one of each as our knives are terrible. when checking out, it offered me 8" cuisinart ss all purpose kitchen shears as an add on for $2.99. Not sure if that's a deal, but I took it. Thanks op.
