The advantage miracast has over chromecast is you don't need a wifi network connection to use it. If you are on a home network then this isn't a big deal. If you are somewhere wifi isn't available (i.e. on vacation in hardwired hotel, in a car, etc) then you can't use your chromecast. I found this out trying to set it up in my car plugging into my headunit's HDMI input. I can use my phone's hotspot, but it's an extra step and uses more data. I switched it to the Microsoft v2 miracast adapter and it works great so far.

If you have a recent Nexus or Pixel phone, miracast is disabled unless you root your device and change a setting. Just a FYI for those this would impact.

Almost certainly.

There seems to be a lot of confusion comparing this to a chromecast or streaming stick. This is a screen mirroring device. We use these all the time in the office in meetings, in fact, some of our projectors have miracast built in. Windows 8.1 thru 10 have miracast built-in - it's the "connect to a wireless display" that you'll find under "project" and other places. You can then use the projector, TV, display, whatever as a second monitor or duplicated display. It's not for "casting" an application through your wifi network, its for mirroring or extending your display. It uses your WiFi adaptor to create a separate "ad-hoc" network between devices. If you're already connected to a Wifi network on your device it'll still create a separate ad-hoc type connection between the devices only while leaving your existing Wifi connection alone. The miracast device is just a listening device...it's not configured to connect to your home wifi network - just think of this as a wireless HDMI adapter.

How is this better/differ than Chromecast & what issue does Chromecast have with most Android apps? Also, does Miracast allow for screen mirroring of any Android smartphone/tablet/iPhone/iPad/Windows 10 & if not does Chromecast? And if your Smart TV has Miracast built-in is it the same as this device?

$17.99 is better than $60 (a few month ago!) / even current $40 is kind of pricey Wink but it's a good adapter for android users ! TUOP Rock

Great price for a Miracast device. A nice alternative to Chromecast or Window's WiFi Display Adapter.

I'd like to know the answer too. V2 is the way to go.

cookie has issues, miracast is no match for chomecast. I pulled my Miracast to make room for Ultra Chromecast. Not likely it's chromecast that is the problem.

ive had mine for almost 2 years now and it still works like a charm.. the one thing I liked better than Chromecast is the fact that you can stream a video through the video player and still multitask on ur phone or tablet.. I paid $60 almost 2 years ago and still use it everyday.. beats paying for cable

except for one minor detail, it eats battery during mirroring, better keep it plugged in. The Chromecast app hands it off to the dongle and frees up the phone. In fact I'll grab another phone or tablet to pick up where the other phone left off.

am not an android user (iphone Wink here - and yes it sucks ! for my hi-res needs laugh out loud ) but last year was meeting my friends overseas - who arrived earlier - had an emergency miracast request ! cause apartment we rented had chromecast and my friend has android phone ! so I know that bunch of android apps do not work on chromcast ! Frown btw - I have a couple chromcasts myself ! Rock
