Got my yale one for $85 - pretty lukewarm. But hey, 20% is 20% if you are in the market.

What etailers have good pricing? I've been eyeing the 916 and haven't found a better price. I can always return this purchase to HD.

thanks. I'll look into that one. been wanting to buy but I've had opportunities to get 912 for $125~ and I passed cause it didn't have as much utility for me.

as for your question, I should have been clearer, I'm cheap and I'm referring to AWD and eBay listings that have been and some are around the $135-$150 range on the lowest end.

Now OOS at B&H. Looks like it was only in satin nickel anyway.

I think the ones with the keypads can be operated without connecting to a smarthome network by using keypad codes. The ones without need to be connected to some kind of network to use a phone app to electronically control the lock.

I believe Schlage/Yale may be more physically secure, but if someone really wants to break in they probably won't be using the front door. I got Kwikset to match the other locks in my house.

How easy/difficult are these to install? Can an average joe do this or would you need to hire a professional?

Pretty easy to install, assuming you have an existing deadbolt. You remove a few screws, pull the old one out, replace the striker plates (metal plates on door frame and the door itself) if you like, and put the new one back in.

The major difference on most Z wave and/or keypad locks is how much bigger they are. Usually, you have to drill two holes in your door but I believe they gave me a paper template last time so I couldn't mess up.

I really dig Kwikset smartkey re-keying functionality until I found out my entire house does not have the Kwikset (KW1) keyways ie Kwikset key compatible locks.

So either I replaced all my other locks to get them to be able to use my new Kwikset re-keys or just not be able to use the Smartkey functionality on my new Kwikset deadbolt.

I chose to live with the latter. Smilie
