Duromax 10,000 surge watt, 8,000 watt hybrid, dual fuel generator $599.99 on Ebay!

It's that time again! (No not football season, yet). Hurricane season!

I've been wanting to get one of the Duromax/Durostar Ebay generator deals for quite some time.

Last year, after the hurricane here in Florida, and no power for 8 days. I swore, I would never let that happen again. What is worse, is that I got complacent and was "comfortable" as I had been without power 2 weeks and then another 2 weeks directly after getting power back for a week, in the 04' hurricanes.

I digress.

I saw the "hybrid" 10,000 surge watt that has been on SD many times for $599.99-649.99 hit a $500.00 last year right after and wanted to wait for another deal when had the cash.

The $599.99 deal is back on Ebay for the Duromax XP10000EH genset. Not $500, which bummed me out, but I am not chancing it! I haven't seen it drop since a few months back. There have been a few decent deals, and even a "tax free" week here in Florida to prep. Of course, no retailer deals came close during that time.

This is not going to be a Honda or hell, even a Hyundai generator (yes Hyundai makes generators!) It is the cheap Chinese motor and parts, etc etc etc.

But. This is significantly cheaper than anything else at it's power rating. It's a hybrid fuel system. It has a TON of ports and features, including low -oil protection, idle control (for fuel saving), low noise exhaust and motor mounts, and comes with a battery and wheel kit. You really can't beat it for something cheap and in a pinch. I hope it helps someone else out. I needed something to run my AC, and can't afford a name-brand that high in wattage at this time.

GL SDers!

Thanks! I didn't see one in mine, just checked and nada. For some reason, I seldom get any of the Ebay promotions to e-mail. Even though I consistently buy, and sell and have been for 15 years lol. I may just not be in their "market".

Thanks @p00p =D

Not sure why. I blame SD =P

FYI, it won't last long. I've seen these last a few days or a week.

But I contacted Max Tool, the company that owns Max Tool, Factory Generator Outlet, Duromax and Durostar. He said that these are priced this way due to Ebay paying their supplement. The lowest they sell them for on their own websites is about $850. He said they don't even come close to matching these sub - $649 prices.

He also spoke perfect English, his name was Jesse, and sounded like he was actually in the US lol. All surprising!

Does anyone know what the official "thd" spec on this unit is?

One of the reviews on the Home Depot site for this model says "XP10000EH THD = 12% no load 10% under load."

If so, that is not good for many electronic items.

That sounds awfully high. I believe I researched this series Durostar/max last year, and it was 6-8% but it's been a while. But you are right, if it's truly that high, that isn't good for electronics.

I can call Max Tool again and find out what they purport it to be. Will keep you posted

Okay. So per Max Tool, this generator's THD is between 10-12%. SO, if you have extremely sensitive electronics (a higher end PC, TV, what not) you need to be safe and toss it on some kind of line filter first. Laptops, phones, lights, etc will usually be fine on their own, as "dirty" power is already either filtered via adapter/battery, or it won't effect it.

10-12% is higher than some of the more expensive dual power units. I've seen Pulsar and Champion even mention 5-6% with their technology (but have not seen these come down under $800 for anything with comparable power).

Reading about different users experiences on this on Amazon, I've seen a mix. People saying they have had "cleaner" and more consistent power with the Duromax/star vs Champion, Champion vs. Duro, and Pulsar, Sportsman, etc. It seems to me, unless you spend quite a bit more on a generator with more expensive tech. in it, it's going to be hit or miss.

This is still a great price for an emergency power source for a home. I love that it has good motor mounts, comes with a battery, and has an effective idle control. I will toss an update in once it arrives on build quality, how it arrived, and decibel levels, etc

Some incredible info about "clean" and "dirty" power produced by generators. About 10 posts down from Whizkid3

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r...er-Cleanup

Just an incredible wealth of info. Looks like this generator will handle "sensitive" electronics just fine even at a higher THD.

Also, for people in my situation, it will be overkill for just my AC and a few lights, which is all I want it for. Therefore, being under-loaded, it will be "safer" to run the occasional electronic on.

He must not be American if he spoke perfect English.
