why are even ni-Cad batteries being offered anymore? Every time i've boought one in the past, they die so much quicker, and so much more finnicky.

This is a pretty good set for the price; I bought one last year at this time (seems to come out around the Father's Day sales). But I'd only recommend it if you already have DeWalt 18V stuff and want some extra tools and batteries. The tools are solid and work fine, and should be reliable for years. That said, they are heavy and in no way can compete with the newer Li-Ion systems and new brushless tools.

If you are getting into a new system and don't already have DeWalt 18V, don't get this -- get a DeWalt 20V, or Milwaukee M18 deal (M12 is also great, especially the M12 Fuel series). (My friends also recommend Makita though I don't have any experience with that.)

If you want the latest, best stuff, yes, you'll pay a lot more than $99. But for $99 you can get some entry-level combos in either system.

This is tempting since I've been wanting to add the the impact driver to my collection. The tool itself goes for $65 all day on ebay but this deal includes the driver, drill and two batteries. Very tempting.
