Seems like a decent price. It's been cheaper tho.

I absolutely love this pack. The Porter 46 is the maximum size for a carry on, and I can fit a weeks worth of work clothes in it. I like that it opens up like a suitcase, because with many other packs, you are stuffing it in through the top, so it's hard to get to the stuff all the way at the bottom. Very comfortable to wear and lifetime warranty. You can't go wrong with Osprey's quality and customer support.

I also have the Porter 30 and Porter 65 for occasions I need a smaller or larger pack.

I've used this for backpacking for 5 years and I can't believe how well it's held up. I'm pretty rough on it, too.

Just brought this and an Osprey Daylite to Europe for 3 weeks. Fits as a carry on, and was allowed the Daylite as a personal bag even though technically the daylite is too long. Had more than enough space for all of my travel gear and souvenirs. Great pack, and extremely easy to pack. Saved me from having to check anything, which meant no waiting in lines or lost luggage issues. Love this pack.

How is this for day backpacking hikes? Some Amazon reviews/answers mention this bag as more tailored for travel than for hiking.

This is exactly how I've traveled over 4 or 5 times for 2weeks+ at a time. Pro-tip for everyone: Find a full service laundromat about halfway through the trip and get all of your dirty clothes washed, dried, and folded. It's usually not that expensive (maybe $8-12).

Not so good for backpacking/hikes. Larger than you would need for day hikes as well. Check out their hiking specific packs.
