It all depends on what you're using them for. I think the Heresy III is a much better deal. They're much better speakers, but also a lot more money. personally I don't like using subwoofers for music. They never blend well. You can get it dialed in perfect for one recording then play something else and the bass is overwhelming or nonexistent. It's constantly trying to adjust it to try to get it to sound right. If money is tight I'd suggest checking your local Craigslist for a used pair of Heresy II's. You should be able to score a pair for around $500 give or take and have money left over for a better turntable. If you even need one

I would also add that this setup is much more portable and can be used for desktop and such, while heresy is more dedicated

you shouldn't have to constantly adjust the sub per song. Have you considered the possibility that the songs with "missing bass" don't have much bass in the recording to begin with?

While I don't have heresy iii's, I know what anemic Klipsch bass is like (on my la scalas). A steep slope crossover between the sub and mains should work out fine. I use a dbx 223, but there are much better options these days for around the same price.

tl;dr: Klipsch heritage suck for bass. You'll need a sub. it will sound great with a sub.

I have the lp120 and have really been impressed. I'd like a second one if anyone is interested in the speakers and wanting to split the package
