Baby Monitor

Slick Dealers,
I'm looking for advice on baby monitors. I have been looking at this [amazon.com] V-Tech model, it is the cheapest ever according to Camelx3. The reviews are so-so. This doesn't use Wifi which is good from a security point of view, but wifi access would be convenient.

Does anyone have experience using indoor IP Cameras instead of using a baby monitor. I will need support for two cameras and I have wired internet(w/ POE) to the rooms I need monitored. Does anyone suggest just using a normal monitor like the one linked above?

TYIA for any advice or suggestions.

Mike

We just used a Foscam for awhile. You can use port forwarding if you want to push the stream outside of your home network so you can watch while away but that does come with it's own set of risks. If you just want to use it for in-home monitoring they they're pretty great and reasonably priced.

I apologize this does not answer the question you asked. I can not delete this post though so I'll leave it as is.

For video monitors might I suggest this review of several products:

Also consider audio only monitors as well (in sure you have). We never felt the need for a video feed with our two kids.

I agree.. Video isn't really all that important IMO. We have a regular audio monitor (Angelcare). I do also have a smasumg smartcam that's set up but we rarely open the feed. The audio monitor is just so much more useful than some alert on your phone from the IP camera.

If I was doing it again, I'd probably get the same audio monitor and a foscam camera as a backup. Also, if you have old Android phones, we've used the Dormi [google.com] app when we travel, could work for home too.

My little guy is 11 months old. I initially bought a monitor with camera for around $90, but it wasn't functioning well, and it died pretty quick. I have to say, my baby's room is very close to ours, and I hear him if he's up, but having a video gives me a total peace of mind. I bought this one [amazon.com] from amazon and I absolutely love it. Now I can see if he's just fussing in there or he needs help because his little leg got stuck. It is also helpful, because it shows the temperature in his room, so I know if he's cold or hot. This monitor has a very good battery life, and functions really well overall. Best money ever spent. I know it's on a pricier side, but having tried other ones on the market, nothing beats this one. use an old ios or android smartphones with Facetime/google hangouts.

just plug them into the charger and place them on a tripod/duct tape to crib etc.

There are apps that you can pay for as well to make it more "monitor-like" but it gets the job done.

$3.99

$1.00

Even if an old phone with a cracked screen would work (albeit with its only safety issues). im sure you can get some old semi working phones from friends/family/ebay.

We bought a baby monitor with video and for the most part it's not necessary. If the baby is up, she makes noise and you hear it. Video is nice just to see how cute your baby is when they are sleeping or if you have a babysitter and want to check in
