Newegg is having sales on multiple QNAP NAS. The TS-251+ is ~$20 cheaper than the deal 10 days ago. Other places are at $300+. If you don't need the 4-bay in TS-451+, this model can save you $100+. If you need to run RAID5, then don't look at 2-bay models.

No the 4 bay QNAPs have been around 250 in past deals. 4 bay is much much better due to the raid 5 configuration. Even if you only have 2 drives buy a 4 bay and expand into it. You'll be glad you did. And always back up important files to the cloud if possible. Off site backup is the only true backup. IMHO

Can these qnaps offer remote backups? In other words can I have one of these at my house and my parents can remotely backup to it from their house?

Yes. You can set it up as a cloud drive.

None of the other ones are really slick deal. For basic back up, you may wait for the $99 deal at lower models that pop up once a while.

I have a qnap ts-509 that I got back in 2009. I had to replace power supply in unit at a cost of $59 but it JUST now is being phased out from support for firmware upgrades.. I use it for cloud, file storage, it even runs plex if i want it to. I will be replacing it soon... But uhm that's 9 years? I have a 2tb usb drive thats plugged into it for backup of my pictures in case it takes a crap.... but I can tell you I love qnap. I love the interface, I love the options. Hard to get me to switch - but i'd definately get a 4bay and unless you need transcoding or connection to hdmi - just get the basic model - it will be fine.

A lot of NAS deals lately, but I feel like they're coming out with new ones soon and the 253A supports 4k. All I use my current NAS for is tv and movies. Should I pay the extra for it, or let my HTPC plex server so the heavy lifting?

I have $10 off $100 Newegg coupon which I am selling for $4.99 to make deal a bit slicker. If anybody is interested, please PM me.
( I will just send you eBay link to buy to make transaction easy, safe and fast)
Note that coupon code does not stack if one is looking at the other ones. I am using my Newest GC that I got from Groupon with 10% bonus a couple months ago.

I have been looking for a 4-bay TS-451 too replace a 2-Bay TS251+....

I am tempted, but not sure 13% off is a great deal. It seems like they are coming out with something new and the prices are going to get cheaper. There has been a lot Qnap discounts lately.
