for a fraction of the cost i think a bench grinder and sharpening wheels are a better option
Dear lord, never use a bench grinder on a nice knife..

i think that's a bit excessive unless you have a van with a restraining metal table and a select collection of knives...

why not? i see on youtube pros sharpen expensive knives with a bench grinder and paper wheels. i'm waiting for the next "deal" on walmart wen grinder and then will buy the paper wheel and 800 grit wheel if such exists. i made a small diameter wheel for dremel and it works just as good. it's so much faster and easier than using stones. i know a pro chef who uses a similar electric sharpener. i brought my cheap ebay knife to sharpen. it ruined my knife, made it a lot worse. then i gave him my cheap chinese steel kitchen knives. it didn't sharpen them at all. that sharpener is expensive in same price range. after that i decided to make my own wheel.

xxxxx = prudent if they love to cook?

This is a highly rated and well reviewed knife sharpener that seems to be loved by a lot of folks. It's not for you, cool man, you can waste your hundreds of dollars on something else Smilie

Yea I own this thing and it's awesome. I definitely paid more than this, and it's worth every penny for lower and higher end knives alike. Makes slicing tomatoes very satisfying. Watch out for those folks who are used to using dull knives though. Both girlfriend and Mom cut their hands open from bad technique immediately after sharpening with this.

I've used this, the wen sharpener and hand sharpening and I have to say this sharpener is the easiest to use, the wen sharpener is the second easiest and hand sharpening is still the best but can take more time depending on the condition of the knife.

The wen sharpener leaves the blade with a more convex edge which doesn't keep a razor edge as well as concave or straight sharpened edge, meaning instead of using a steel, you have to continue to use the Wen sharpener to touch up your blade.. not a big deal I'm just not a fan.

what is the difference between this one and the chef's choice model 151. They both look the same and deliver the same edge. Anyone can shed a light on this?

I got this and it works wonders. On better knives with stronger steel it takes more swipes. I never knew my knives can be that sharp I paid full price. If you got nice knives and good number of them this will be a nice easy way to sharpen knives.

Some of the comments here are just idiotic. A bench grinder is not a substitute for an effective knife sharpener such as this.

Owned this for 5+ years. Love it. Works great coupled with intermittent hand sharpening.
